On September 29, Pacific Time, Air Canada Aeroplan announced a major refresh of its Canadian cobrand credit cards. A set of new benefits takes effect on January 12, 2027. 1. A permanent 15% discount on Air Canada flight rewards

From January 12, 2027, every primary Aeroplan cobrand cardholder saves 15% of the points when redeeming Air Canada flight rewards. The news release confirms this as an ongoing card benefit, not a limited-time offer.

Available now: The release also says Canadian cardholders can already get this discount as a promotion through January 11, 2027. After that it becomes a standing card benefit. Earlier third-party write-ups described the promo as bookings made from September 10, 2026 through January 11, 2027, with travel dates through December 31, 2027.

Two details worth knowing:

  • The 15% discount also applies to other members in the cardholder’s Family Sharing pool, so the whole family saves.
  • Once this explicit discount is in place, Aeroplan’s previous opaque discount for cobrand cardholders and elite members is gone.

2. A twice-yearly AC Wallet flight credit

Starting in January 2027, cobrand cardholders receive an Air Canada travel credit twice a year, deposited straight into AC Wallet:

  • Premium cards: up to $100 a year ($50 each half)
  • Core cards: up to $50 a year ($25 each half)

The first credit lands on January 15, 2027. Rewards Canada’s summary says the deposits are on January 15 and July 15, each credit lasts 6 months, and the two credits from the same card cannot be combined with each other. They can be used together with other money already in the wallet. Credits from different cards can stack. Hold both the Amex Aeroplan Reserve and the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite, for example, and on January 15 you would receive $50 and $25, $75 in total, usable on the same Air Canada booking.

3. Night 4 free on hotels becomes permanent, plus day 4 free on cars

  • Night 4 free on hotels: This was a limited-time promotion. From January 12, 2027 it is an ongoing card benefit. Book a qualifying hotel stay with points and the fourth night is free.
  • Day 4 free on car rentals: Same idea as the fourth hotel night. Redeem points for a qualifying rental and the fourth day is free. This is also an ongoing card benefit.

4. Better airport benefits on Premium cards

Premium cardholders (standard access rules still apply) receive:

  • Worldwide Maple Leaf Lounge access. Lounge access that was limited to North America expands to Maple Leaf Lounges worldwide, and the cardholder can bring one guest. Air Canada Café access inside Canada stays in place.
  • Priority Security. A dedicated security lane at selected airports worldwide, for you and up to eight companions on the same booking.

Existing Premium-only benefits stay, including priority check-in, priority boarding, priority baggage, priority standby, 10% Head Start, and up to 25,000 Status Qualifying Credits.

5. Annual fees are going up

From the published details, annual fees on several cards will rise. For Amex and CIBC, the new fees apply on the first annual-fee billing date after January 12, 2027. TD’s date is listed as January 25, 2027:

Card Primary fee Supplementary fee
Amex Aeroplan Reserve (Premium) $599 → $799 Reserve: $199 → $249
Reserve Companion: $0 → $25
CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege (Premium) $599 → $699 $149 → $159
TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege (Premium) $599 → $699 $199 → $209
Amex Aeroplan Card (Core) $120 → $150 Aeroplan: $50 → $59
Aeroplan Companion: $0 → $25
CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite (Core) $139 → $159 $50 → $80
TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite (Core) $139 → $159 $75 → $80
Amex Aeroplan Business Reserve $599 → $799 Business Reserve: $199 → $249
Business Reserve Companion: $0 → $25
CIBC Aeroplan Visa Business $180 → $200 $50 → $55
TD Aeroplan Visa Business $149 → $169 $49 → $54

New Amex Aeroplan Reserve perks from that roundup: a $200 dining credit at Air Canada “Best New Restaurants,” an extra 10% points rebate after $125,000 of annual spending, another 10% points rebate for every $25,000 spent (capped at $400,000 a year), and 6 Priority Pass passes plus 8 Amex Aspire Canada lounge passes each year. Treat those details as pending Amex’s own announcement.

6. Who benefits most?

  • If you redeem Air Canada flights anyway: The 15% discount is the most valuable change. A 25,000-point Air Canada flight reward drops to 21,250 points. Two or three redemptions a year can save more than 10,000 points.
  • If you want a no-annual-fee card: This refresh may push more people to open the CIBC Aeroplan Visa (no annual fee) just to lock in the permanent 15% discount. That fits especially well if Amex Cobalt is already your main earning card.
  • If you hold a Premium card: A $100 yearly flight credit, worldwide lounge access, and Priority Security offset a $100–$200 fee increase. If you rarely fly Air Canada, decide again whether the card is worth keeping.
  • Existing benefits stay: The first checked bag free, priority boarding, and the other current perks remain.
