【September 10, 2026 update】 Chase just announced a redesigned Aeroplan card. Besides a record-high welcome offer, the main changes are:
1. Annual fee rises to $195:
- The annual fee moves from $95 a year to $195 a year.
- Timing: existing cards keep the old rules through the end of 2026. The higher $195 fee takes effect on your next renewal date, or in 2027.
2. New and upgraded benefits
Existing cardholders automatically get the core new perks from this redesign:
- Automatic Aeroplan 25K status: you no longer need $15,000 in annual spend to keep status. Holding the card is enough. That includes priority check-in, priority boarding (Zone 2), extra baggage allowance, and eUpgrade credits.
- Up to $100 a year in Air Canada statement credits: $50 in the first half of the year and $50 in the second half, posted automatically on eligible Air Canada spend.
- 15% off award flights (FLY15OFF): cardmembers get 15% off the points required to redeem Air Canada-operated award tickets in Aeroplan.
- New earn categories: Air Canada spend rises from 3X to as much as 5X (3X from the card plus 2X from 25K status), plus 3X on travel and 2X at gas stations.
- Hotel award stays already had a 4th night free; award car rentals now get a 4th day free as well.
3. Transition and devaluations
- Dining and grocery earn drop after a transition: through December 31, 2026, dining and grocery stores stay at 3X. From January 1, 2027, the ongoing rate for those categories becomes 2X.
- Pay Yourself Back (PYB): PYB is still there, but the 1.25 cents per point rate on non-airline spend such as dining, grocery, and gas is currently marked through the end of 2026 (Chase may extend or change it).
- Chase UR 10% transfer bonus: the extra 10% when you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to Aeroplan also continues through December 31, 2026.
- The 500 miles for $2,000 in monthly spend also continues through December 31, 2026.
My take
If you fly Air Canada at least once or twice a year, the $100 Air Canada credit brings the effective annual fee back to $95 — the same as the old card — while you get automatic 25K status, 15% off award tickets, and 3X on travel. That still looks worthwhile overall.
A few of these perks are winding down, so if you need to move Ultimate Rewards points into Aeroplan, transfer before year-end to pick up the extra 10%.
Highlights
- The primary cardmember gets Aeroplan 25K Status after the account opens, and keeps it while the account stays open and linked to an Aeroplan number.
- Eligible Air Canada purchases charged directly earn 3 points per USD 1. On qualifying flights as an Aeroplan 25K member, Air Canada can add another 2 points, for up to 5x in total.
- No foreign transaction fees. Eligible Air Canada purchases charged to this card can earn up to USD 100 in statement credits each calendar year.
- The cardmember and up to eight companions on the same reservation (nine travellers in total) each get a free first checked bag (up to 50 lb).
Issuer: Chase
Network: Mastercard
Product type: Credit card
Annual fee: USD 195 primary card
Foreign transaction fees: none
Rewards are Aeroplan points. They transfer automatically to the linked Aeroplan account after each billing cycle. Once transferred, they do not expire while the card account stays open.

Gift cards; car rentals, hotels, and other third-party partner products or services bought through aircanada.com; onboard Wi-Fi; tickets bought through travel agencies, discount travel sites, vacation clubs, or tour operators; and tickets booked as part of a travel package from a non-airline merchant do not qualify. 3x: travel purchases. You earn 3 points per USD 1. Air Canada purchases that already earned the 3x Air Canada rate are not counted again.
3x: grocery stores. You earn 3 points per USD 1. Grocery purchases that post on or before December 31, 2026 earn 3x; after that the rate becomes 2x.

Benefits & Insurance
- Automatic Aeroplan 25K Status
The primary cardmember receives Aeroplan 25K Status when the account opens, and keeps it until the account is closed. If you have already earned a higher tier another way, you keep the higher tier. 25K is not transferable. The card must be linked to your Aeroplan number, and the account must stay open and not in default. Status and related perks follow the Aeroplan Elite Status terms.
- Up to USD 100 a year in Air Canada credits ($100 Air Canada Annual Credit)
Eligible Air Canada purchases charged directly to this card can earn up to USD 50 in statement credits from January 1 through June 30, and another USD 50 from July 1 through December 31, for a calendar-year maximum of USD 100. The same exclusions as the Air Canada 3x category apply. Credits are issued for the half-year in which the purchase posts; processing delays can push a purchase into the next period. Allow 6 to 8 weeks for the credit to post; the account must be open and not in default at fulfillment.
- Free first checked bags (Free First Checked Bags)
The primary cardmember and up to eight companions on the same reservation (nine travellers in total) each get a free first checked bag of up to 50 lb. It only applies when you check in with Air Canada on a flight operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, or Air Canada Express. The bag must be checked at the designated counter before security; gate-checked bags and check-in with another airline do not qualify. If the first bag is already free (for example because of status or fare), you do not get an extra free bag. The benefit is not retroactive and is not refunded. Extra, overweight, or oversized bags can still incur fees.
- 15% off award tickets (FLY15OFF)
Eligible primary cardmembers with a linked Aeroplan account pay at least 15% fewer points for the base fare of a qualifying flight reward than a member without the card. The matching outbound or inbound segment must be operated entirely by Air Canada, Air Canada Express, or Air Canada Rouge, and booked through aircanada.com, the Air Canada app, or the Air Canada call centre. The discount applies only to the points portion of that qualifying segment’s base fare — not taxes and fees, third-party products, travel insurance, trip-cancellation insurance, carbon offsets, or the cash portion. You must be logged in, in good standing, and have the card linked at booking.
- 5,000 Status Qualifying Credits a year (Annual Status Qualifying Credits)
Each calendar year the primary cardmember receives 5,000 SQC: once when the card is opened, then again by the end of February each year after that. You get that annual 5,000 SQC only once per calendar year, no matter how many Chase Aeroplan Cards you hold or open. All Aeroplan co-branded credit cards, regardless of issuer, are capped at a combined 25,000 SQC per member per calendar year. If you close the account that year, SQC from this benefit for that year are removed, and related status can be revoked. SQC cannot be redeemed for rewards and do not count toward Million Mile Status.
- Up to 20,000 more SQC from spend (Collect Up to 20,000 Status Qualifying Credits)
Each calendar year, the primary cardmember gets another 10,000 SQC after USD 25,000 in purchases on this card account, and another 10,000 SQC after USD 50,000, still subject to the 25,000 SQC combined credit-card cap above. Spend resets on January 1. Allow 6 to 8 weeks after you hit the threshold. The purchase definition and exclusions are the same as the welcome offer.
- Spend your way to Aeroplan 35K Status (Qualify for Aeroplan 35K Status)
Spend at least USD 75,000 on this card account in a calendar year and the primary cardmember receives Aeroplan 35K Status for the rest of that calendar year and the following calendar year. If you have already earned a higher tier another way, you keep the higher tier. 35K is not transferable. The card must be linked to your Aeroplan number, the card account must be open and not in default, and the Aeroplan account must be in good standing. Allow 6 to 8 weeks after you qualify. Spend resets on January 1.
- Global Entry, TSA PreCheck®, or NEXUS application-fee credit (Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® or NEXUS Application Fee Statement Credit)
After you or an authorized user charge the first eligible application fee for one of those three programmes to this card, you can receive one statement credit of up to USD 120 every four years. Only those three programmes qualify. Pay directly to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, an eligible partner listed on ttp.cbp.dhs.gov, or an authorized enrollment provider listed on tsa.gov/precheck; payments through travel agencies or application-assistance services do not qualify. The credit usually posts in 1 to 2 billing cycles. The account must be open and not in default at fulfillment.
- 24/7 Concierge
The concierge can help with hard-to-find items or restaurant reservations. You pay for any goods or services bought through World Mastercard Concierge. Use the number on the back of the card; the Chase Aeroplan benefits page also lists 1-866-200-6041, and 1-332-600-6858 collect from outside the U.S.
- Every Air Canada seat you can buy with cash is also available with points (Every Seat, Every Flight, No Restrictions)
Any Air Canada seat available for cash is also available with points. The issuer site does not add a seat-restriction caveat.
- 4th night free on hotel award stays (4th Night Free)
Linked primary cardmembers who book four consecutive nights at the same participating hotel, under the same confirmation number, with Aeroplan points only on the site operated by Loyalty Travel Agency LLC (CX Loyalty), get a reduction equal to the average points cost of one of those four nights. You cannot combine this with cash-plus-points or cash-only bookings, and separate reservations cannot be stitched together. Unused value is not refunded in points. Local taxes and resort fees may still be due at the hotel.
- Pay Yourself Back®
You can redeem Aeroplan points for a statement credit against eligible travel, dining, grocery, or gas-station purchases that posted to this card in the past 90 days, or against a prior annual-fee charge. The redemption value is shown before you confirm and can change. Credits usually post within 3 business days of the request and appear on the statement within 6 to 8 weeks; you still have to make at least the minimum payment. Only points earned in Aeroplan, on this card, and in Chase Ultimate Rewards® qualify; points converted from other programmes do not.
- Roadside Assistance
This is a service, not an insurance payout. If you have a roadside emergency, call the provider to dispatch help. Service fees are billed to the card at dispatch.
Travel insurance

- Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance
If sickness, severe weather, or another covered situation cancels or cuts short your trip, you can be reimbursed for prepaid, non-refundable passenger fares up to USD 1,500 per covered traveller and USD 6,000 per trip. You must charge all or part of the trip to this card. Coverage is secondary, and the planned trip cannot exceed 60 days. A voluntary change of plans, an event that already existed before booking, and a pre-existing condition treated in the 60 days before booking are among the exclusions. Notify the travel supplier right away, then file at chasecardbenefits.com or 1-800-349-2634 within 20 days of the cancellation or interruption, and submit documents within 90 days.
- Baggage Delay Insurance
After you pay all or part of a common-carrier fare with this card or eligible points, if checked baggage is delayed or misdirected more than 6 hours after you arrive, you can be reimbursed for essentials (toiletries, a change of clothes, and one charger per electronic device) up to USD 100 a day for up to 3 days. Report the delay to the carrier first. Coverage is secondary. Hearing aids, dentures, tickets and documents, cash, business samples, jewellery and watches, cameras and other electronics, and recreational equipment are excluded. File within 20 days of the delay and submit documents within 90 days.
- Trip Delay Reimbursement
If common-carrier travel is delayed more than 12 hours or requires an overnight stay, you can be reimbursed for expenses not already covered elsewhere, such as meals and lodging, up to USD 500 per covered traveller. You must use this card. Claim deadlines, finer payment rules, and exclusions are not stated on the issuer’s website.
- Auto Rental Coverage
Decline the rental company’s collision / loss-damage waiver and charge the entire rental to this card, and you can be reimbursed for theft or collision damage to most rental vehicles. In the United States the coverage is secondary: your personal auto insurance pays first, and this benefit covers what that policy does not (including your deductible). If you have no other insurance, it acts as primary. Outside the U.S., where the benefit is available, it is primary. The World Elite Mastercard benefits guide also states a maximum of USD 60,000, a rental period of up to 31 consecutive days, and exclusions for vehicles with an MSRP above USD 125,000, antiques, cargo vans, motorcycles, rentals with a driver, and listed exotic brands. Report an accident or theft as soon as possible, and no later than 100 days, at chasecardbenefits.com or 1-800-349-2634; submit required documents within 365 days.
Purchase insurance
- Purchase Protection
After you pay all or part of a new item with this card or eligible points, theft or damage within 120 days of purchase (90 days in New York) can be covered. The limit is USD 500 per item and USD 50,000 per account; reimbursement is the lower of repair, like-kind replacement, or the amount charged. Coverage is secondary. Loss or unexplained disappearance, plants and animals, vehicles, items bought for resale, cash, and similar instruments are excluded. File within 90 days of the loss and submit documents within 120 days.
Other updates
【August 28, 2025 update】 Air Canada had recently announced changes to Aeroplan. Chase then emailed a detailed list of the 2026 card rules:

- The $50,000 spend path to 35K is gone. 35K now requires $75,000 in spend
- $50,000 in spend earns 25,000 SQC, including 5,000 SQC at the start of the year and another 10,000 SQC after each $25,000 in spend
- $75,000 in calendar-year spend earns 35K status (this was not on the Aeroplan website, but Chase’s email stated it clearly)
