The primary or supplementary cardmember and up to 8 companions on the same flight and the same booking can get Priority Baggage Handling on an eligible Air Canada itinerary. It does not guarantee when the bags arrive.

The primary or supplementary cardmember and up to 8 companions on the same booking can get a higher same-day airport standby position when the fare allows standby. That does not guarantee a seat.
- Higher Priority for Upgrade Clearance
The primary or supplementary cardmember and up to 8 companions on the same booking can get a higher same-day upgrade-clearance position when the fare allows an upgrade. An upgrade still depends on eligibility, space, and Air Canada’s terms.
- Air Canada Lounge Access
Primary and supplementary cardmembers who have linked an Aeroplan account can enter eligible Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Cafés in Canada and the United States when they hold an eligible same-day departing Air Canada or Star Alliance ticket. The current product page says each cardmember may bring 1 guest through December 31, 2026. Air Canada Signature Suite and third-party lounges are excluded, and capacity and airport terms still apply.
- Visa Airport Companion Program
Each cardmember must enrol separately through the Visa Airport Companion app or website. After enrolment, each membership year includes 6 complimentary lounge visits at more than 1,200 lounges in the program worldwide. Once those are used, extra visits are currently USD $32 per person per visit, and that amount can change. A guest also uses a visit or incurs a charge.
- Annual Worldwide Companion Pass
After at least $25,000 in eligible net purchases in the 12 months tied to each account anniversary, the primary cardmember receives 1 companion pass. It is deposited to the Aeroplan account up to 8–10 weeks after that account year ends. When the primary cardmember buys a published economy fare on Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, or Air Canada Express, the companion’s base fare is $99, $299, $499, or $599 CAD depending on the destination, plus taxes, fees, and surcharges. The pass has specific limits on expiry, routes, fares, booking, and keeping the account in good standing.
- NEXUS Statement Credit
When an eligible card pays a NEXUS application fee, you can receive one statement credit of up to $200 CAD every 4 years. Approval is not required, but the account must be in good standing when the fee posts. NEXUS eligibility and approval are decided by the border agencies.

Travel insurance
Official insurance certificate🔗
- Out-of-Province Emergency Travel Medical Insurance
A Canadian resident who leaves their home province, has provincial health coverage, and has a medical emergency can receive up to $5,000,000 per insured person per trip. You do not have to charge the trip to this card. Age 64 and under is covered for the first 31 days of a trip; age 65 and older is covered for the first 10 days. Contact Global Excel before treatment, or as soon as medically possible. A pre-existing condition that was unstable in the 90 days before departure (180 days at age 65 and older), non-emergency treatment, travel for treatment, and losses tied to an existing Government of Canada travel advisory may not be covered. File a claim within 90 days of the service.
- Trip Cancellation Insurance
This applies only to prepaid travel arrangements already charged to this card when the trip is cancelled for a covered reason defined in the certificate. The limit is $2,500 per insured person and $10,000 combined for all insured persons. Known or foreseeable causes, unstable pre-existing conditions, some pregnancy and high-risk activities, and travel-advisory situations are excluded. Cancel the arrangements and notify the insurer as soon as you can, and provide the proof the claim requires.
- Trip Interruption and Trip Delay Insurance
This applies when a trip is interrupted or delayed for a covered reason and any part of the trip cost was paid with this card or with points from this card’s rewards program. The limit is $5,000 per insured person and $25,000 combined for all insured persons. Eligible expenses while return transportation is delayed are also capped at $200 per person per day and $2,000 combined, and those amounts count toward the policy maximum. Known causes, unstable pre-existing conditions, travel advisories, and the certificate’s covered reasons and claim documents all apply.
- Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage Insurance
Pay the full rental with this card and/or points from this card’s rewards program, decline the rental company’s CDW, and rent an eligible vehicle, and theft, loss, or damage to the vehicle can be covered. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price must not exceed $100,000, and a continuous rental can last up to 48 days. Third-party liability, bodily injury, and property other than the rental vehicle are not covered. Contact the insurer within 48 hours of the loss or damage, submit the first documents within 45 days, and submit the rest within 90 days.
- Common Carrier Accident Insurance
After at least 75% of the common-carrier fare, including tax, is charged to this card, a covered accidental loss while you are a passenger boarding, riding, or leaving that carrier, or travelling directly to or from its airport, station, or terminal, is covered up to $500,000 per insured person per accident. Illness, intentional injury, crime, accidents caused by alcohol or drugs, and certain war or riot situations are excluded. Notify the insurer as soon as reasonably possible, and in writing within 90 days of the loss where you can.
- Flight Delay Insurance
When an eligible scheduled flight is delayed more than 4 hours for a reason listed in the certificate, and the fare was paid with this card or redeemed through this card’s rewards program, reasonable living, transportation, and entertainment expenses during the delay are reimbursed up to $500 per person and $1,000 combined for all insured persons. Transportation and entertainment each have a $100 combined sub-limit for everyone. Keep receipts and the airline’s delay confirmation, and give written notice as soon as reasonably possible, ideally within 90 days.
- Delay of Checked Baggage Insurance
When an airline’s checked baggage is unavoidably delayed more than 6 hours, and the related fare was paid with this card or redeemed through this card’s rewards program, essential items bought during the delay are reimbursed up to $500 per person and $1,000 combined. The purchases have to be made within 4 days of the delay. Purchases after the bags are returned, or after 4 days, are not covered. Provide receipts, baggage tags, the airline’s confirmation, and proof of the fare or payment, and notify the insurer as soon as the certificate requires.
- Lost or Stolen Baggage Insurance
When carry-on or checked baggage is lost, stolen, or damaged while in a common carrier’s custody, and the fare was paid with this card or redeemed through this card’s rewards program, the claim is based on actual replacement cost or actual cash value. The limit is $1,000 per person and $2,500 combined for all insured persons, after anything the carrier or another source has already paid. Cash, documents, some valuables, most sports equipment, and losses while commuting are excluded. Report the loss to the carrier and file with them first, and provide the required proof.
- Hotel Burglary Insurance
If your accommodation is burglarized during the stay and any part of the lodging cost was paid with this card or with points from this card’s rewards program, loss or damage to most personal items is covered up to $2,500 per burglary for all insured persons combined. Cash, currency, tickets and documents, fragile or valuable household items, your own rental property, and property you did not reasonably safeguard are excluded. Report it to the police immediately, and within 30 days of the loss submit written materials that include proof of forced entry.
Shopping insurance
- Purchase Security
After you buy new personal property and charge at least part of the price to this card, the item is covered worldwide for loss, theft, or accidental physical damage for 180 days from the purchase date. The payout is the lowest of the repair cost, the actual cash value before the loss, or the price charged to this card. The combined limit for this insurance across all of a cardmember’s CIBC cards is $60,000. Business, used, or refurbished goods, motor vehicles, consumables, services, normal wear, inherent defects, and unexplained disappearance are excluded. Notify the insurer within 45 days of the loss, submit a Loss Report within 90 days, and get approval before repairs.
- Extended Protection
When at least part of an eligible item’s price is charged to this card and the original manufacturer’s warranty is honoured in Canada or the United States, that warranty can be extended to three times its original length, up to 2 extra full years. If the manufacturer’s warranty is longer than 5 years, register the item with the insurer in the first year after purchase. This shares the $60,000 combined CIBC-card limit per cardmember with Purchase Security. Dealer or assembler warranties, improper installation or modification, and repairs or replacements the original warranty would not have covered are excluded. The same 45-day notice, 90-day Loss Report, and pre-repair approval rules apply.
- Mobile Device Insurance
Buy a new phone entirely with this card, or pay the required down payment and every carrier bill for the whole contract with this card, or finance it on a carrier instalment plan with this card, and a covered phone is insured worldwide for loss, theft, or accidental damage up to $1,500 per occurrence per person. A phone bought outright is covered from day 181. A phone on an instalment plan is covered from the first related transaction, usually for up to two years. The payout deducts 2% depreciation for each completed month and a 10% deductible. Across all CIBC cards that offer mobile-device insurance, you can file at most 4 claims in any consecutive 24 months. Mechanical failure, fraud or misuse, used or most refurbished phones, accessories, batteries, and unexplained disappearance are excluded. Suspend service within 48 hours of a loss or theft, report a theft to the police within 7 days, contact the insurer within 14 days and before repair or replacement, and give written notice within 90 days of the loss where you can.
