Canadian Visa credit cards sit in a few tiers: Classic, Gold, Platinum, Visa Infinite (VI), Visa Infinite +, and Visa Infinite Privilege (VIP). Visa Infinite Privilege is the top of that line, aimed at high-net-worth clients in Canada. The annual fee is usually well above a regular Visa Infinite.

In practice, a VIP card’s value splits into three layers:

  • Layer one is what Visa Infinite Privilege itself provides.

Any eligible Visa Infinite Privilege card issued in Canada can use the Visa perks, such as Visa Airport Companion, the Luxury Hotel Collection, OpenTable reservations, and Visa Infinite Dining.

  • Layer two is what the issuing bank adds.

Travel credits, NEXUS reimbursement, travel insurance, mobile-phone insurance, and similar benefits are set by TD, RBC, CIBC, and the other banks. They are not a uniform Visa Infinite Privilege package.

  • Layer three is what a cobrand partner adds.

Maple Leaf Lounge access, free checked bags, and priority boarding on the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege, for example, belong to Aeroplan / Air Canada. You do not get them on every Visa Infinite Privilege card.

This article strips out the bank and airline extras and focuses on what the Visa Infinite Privilege tier itself is worth. Visa Canada currently groups those benefits around six areas: airports, hotels, dining, golf, entertainment, and Concierge.

Which Visa Infinite Privilege cards exist in Canada?

Eight financial institutions in Canada issue Visa Infinite Privilege cards, including:

These cards usually require personal income of $150,000 or household income of $200,000 or more, plus excellent credit.

Main Visa Infinite Privilege benefits

1. Visa Airport Companion: six lounge visits a year

Canadian Visa Infinite Privilege cards can join the Visa Airport Companion Program. DragonPass runs it. Visa currently says the network covers more than 1,200 airport lounges worldwide, including more than 20 in Canada.

After you register for Visa Airport Companion, each membership year you get six complimentary lounge visits, and you can use them for guests travelling with you. Access is typically by QR code in the app at participating lounges.

2. Dedicated treatment at some Canadian airports

Visa Canada’s current Visa Infinite Privilege terms specifically list ground-service perks at Toronto, Montréal, and Ottawa.

  • Toronto City Airport Terminal

Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders can use a dedicated Priority Security Lane in the relevant domestic and trans-border screening areas, which can save queue time at peak periods.

  • Montréal-Trudeau International Airport

Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders can use designated priority screening lanes at the international, domestic, and trans-border checkpoints, and get a 10% discount on eligible valet parking.

  • Ottawa International Airport

Ottawa YOW is the richest of the three: a Priority Security Lane for international / domestic; dedicated Visa Infinite Privilege parking spots in the P3 Parkade closest to the terminal, first come first served; and 20% off standard Parkade rates.

Parking discounts require paying with a valid Visa Infinite Privilege card in the way Visa specifies.

3. Visa Infinite Luxury Hotel Collection

If you often stay in upscale hotels, the Visa Infinite Luxury Hotel Collection is worth a look. It sits in the same neighbourhood as American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts and Virtuoso. The Luxury Hotel Collection currently covers 900+ premium hotels worldwide. Book through Visa’s designated Luxury Hotel Collection channel and pay with an eligible card, and you get a bundle of extra perks.

The current base set of seven benefits includes:

  • Best Available Rate Guarantee;
  • a room upgrade at check-in, subject to availability;
  • breakfast for two;
  • in-room Wi-Fi;
  • a US$25 food and beverage credit;
  • VIP guest status;
  • late checkout available until 3 p.m., subject to hotel availability.

Visa Infinite and Visa Infinite Privilege both get those seven. VIP adds an eighth exclusive benefit. It varies by hotel. Visa’s current examples include:

  • a US$100 spa credit;
  • a US$100 golf credit;
  • a US$100 hotel credit;
  • a US$100 room-rate credit;
  • or an extra US$75 dining credit, bringing the dining credit to around US$100.

What a given hotel offers is whatever the booking page shows. Some hotels also require a minimum stay or a specified room type.

4. RSVP Rewards hotel status

Visa also has a more Canada-local hotel perk:

Visa RSVP Rewards Benefit

After registering, Visa Infinite and Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders currently get elevated RSVP Rewards status at 60+ participating Sandman, Sandman Signature, and Sutton Place Hotels.

Visa currently lists:

  • faster hotel-point earning;
  • complimentary room upgrades;
  • early check-in;
  • late checkout;
  • hotel dining discounts;
  • and other Platinum-tier benefits.

This is not exclusive to Visa Infinite Privilege. Eligible regular Visa Infinite cards can register too. If you travel a lot inside Canada, Sandman’s footprint is larger than many people expect, so this perk can be more useful than its profile suggests.

5. Booking.com: up to 8% travel credits

Visa Canada is also promoting a Booking.com partnership:

Eligible Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders who register a Booking.com account and book eligible stays through Visa’s designated channel can earn up to 8% travel credits, currently capped at US$230. Those credits can be used on later stays.

This is closer to a rotating promo than a perk I would use to value a card over the long term.

Before you use it, re-check the then-current:

  • eligible hotels;
  • rebate rate;
  • travel-credit cap;
  • booking entry point;
  • whether you must pay with a specified Visa card;
  • credit expiry.

Regular Visa Infinite can currently join a similar Booking.com offer, so this is not a sharp divide between VIP and regular Infinite.

One of the more interesting Visa Infinite Privilege additions in recent years is OpenTable × Visa Dining. Eligible Canadian Visa Infinite Privilege cards can join OpenTable’s Visa Dining programme and see primetime reservations that regular users do not.

In plain terms: a hot restaurant may be fully booked for Friday at 7 p.m., but OpenTable may hold a slice of inventory for eligible Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders.

When Visa and OpenTable launched this in Canada, they listed:

  • Toronto;
  • Montréal;
  • Vancouver;
  • Calgary;

and surrounding areas. The programme also covers some US and Mexican cities. The first restaurants included a number of MICHELIN-starred and locally popular spots.

The process is simple: add an eligible Canadian Visa Infinite Privilege card to your OpenTable account, then search participating restaurants and Visa-only time slots on the OpenTable × Visa Dining page.

Dining Series and Wine Country are also open to regular Infinite. OpenTable primetime reservations currently sit with eligible Visa Infinite Privilege cards.

7. Visa Infinite Dining Series

Visa partners with well-known restaurants, chefs, sommeliers, and bartenders in Canadian cities for special dining events, including:

  • chef-curated multi-course menus;
  • wine / cocktail pairings;
  • themed dinners;
  • chef-interaction events;
  • prix fixe menus at selected restaurants;
  • seasonal culinary experiences.

Visa says new events launch by season and cover different Canadian cities.

Two caveats matter.

  • First, the Dining Series is usually not a free meal.

It is more often the right to buy a seat at a special event, and some of those tickets are not cheap.

  • Second, this is not exclusive to Visa Infinite Privilege.

Visa Infinite, Visa Infinite+, and Visa Infinite Privilege may all join eligible Dining Series events. Current Visa terms usually cap how many tickets each cardholder can buy per event, and inventory is limited.

8. Visa Infinite Wine Country

If you live in British Columbia or Ontario, Visa Infinite Wine Country is a distinctly Canadian perk. It focuses on BC and Ontario wine regions, including the Okanagan, Niagara, and Prince Edward County, with offers such as:

  • wine tasting;
  • 2-for-1 tasting;
  • private / curated tours;
  • winery purchase discounts;
  • free or discounted shipping;
  • special wine dinners;
  • Visa-only wine-country tours.

Visa’s site in 2026 still lists wine-tasting tours and special dining events across the Okanagan, South Okanagan, Niagara, and Prince Edward County.

Regular Visa Infinite and Visa Infinite Privilege can both join Wine Country. Some participating wineries give Privilege cardholders a higher tier of treatment.

9. Golf: Visa Infinite Privilege is clearly stronger than regular Infinite

If you play golf, Visa Infinite Privilege gets more valuable. Visa currently partners with Access powered by Troon. After registering, Canadian Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders receive:

Access Rewards Platinum Status.

Platinum currently earns Access Points at 1.2x and can use related benefits at participating courses. Regular Visa Infinite currently gets Silver Status, so the gap is real.

Troon Privé is the more interesting piece. Eligible Canadian Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders can book participating private-member courses. Visa currently cites 25+ courses. The price is US$99 + tax per person per round.

A cardholder can bring up to 3 guests on one tee time, at the same rate. Each participating Troon Privé course can be played twice per calendar year.

If you already play golf, this may be one of the highest-value parts of the Visa Infinite Privilege package. If you never play, you can ignore it.

10. 24/7 Visa Infinite Privilege Concierge

Visa Infinite Privilege includes a complimentary 24/7 concierge. In Canada and the United States you can call:

1-855-822-1240

The concierge can help with:

  • trip planning;
  • restaurant recommendations;
  • restaurant reservations;
  • finding gifts;
  • arranging events;
  • looking up certain goods or services.

There is no concierge service fee, but if they buy goods, book a restaurant, or purchase event tickets for you, you still pay those charges on the Visa Infinite Privilege card. Visa also states that the concierge cannot guarantee every request will be completed.

11. GigSky international data

Visa also partners with GigSky for international mobile-data perks on eligible cards. The Visa Infinite Privilege page currently says you can get complimentary and/or discounted GigSky global mobile data plans.

How much free data you get, which plans are discounted, and which devices and destinations qualify should follow the current Visa offer shown when you register with GigSky.

12. TIFF, Canada Soccer, and other entertainment perks

Visa is a long-time partner of the Toronto International Film Festival, so Visa Infinite / Infinite Privilege often get TIFF-related benefits, such as:

  • early ticket access;

  • priority line;

  • Visa Infinite Lounge;

  • special events during the festival.

For TIFF 2026, for example, Visa Infinite cardholders can buy tickets early and use the Visa Infinite Priority Line and Lounge at designated venues.

Visa also partners with Canada Soccer. When an event qualifies, Visa cardholders can join the Canada national-team home-match presale one day before public tickets.

Many of these entertainment perks are shared by Visa Infinite and Visa Infinite Privilege, and some events are open to a wider set of Visa cards.

13. Visa Destinations and other limited-time offers

Visa Canada is putting more travel, hotel, restaurant, and experience offers into Visa Destinations. It behaves more like a changing premium-card offer platform than a fixed benefits list.

Once you have Visa Infinite Privilege, it is worth checking Visa’s Offers & Perks page now and then. Booking.com, hotels, restaurants, travel, and entertainment often get time-limited partnerships.

Those can be useful, but because offers are added, changed, or ended, you should not treat any one promo as a permanent card benefit.

14. Travel insurance is not a uniform Visa Infinite Privilege benefit

Many Canadian Visa Infinite Privilege cards do come with fairly complete travel insurance, which may include:

  • emergency travel medical;
  • trip cancellation;
  • trip interruption;
  • flight delay;
  • delayed / lost baggage;
  • hotel / motel burglary;
  • rental-car collision / damage;
  • purchase protection;
  • extended warranty;
  • mobile-device insurance.

Coverage limits, age, trip length, whether the trip must be paid in full on the card, how award tickets trigger coverage, and which family members are insured persons are all the specific bank’s and card’s insurance terms. Because many Canadian Visa Infinite Privilege cards are flagship products, issuers often attach fairly complete travel and purchase insurance. Check that card’s Certificate of Insurance.

Visa Infinite Privilege vs Visa Infinite

If you line up current Canadian Visa benefits, you roughly get this table:

Benefit Visa Infinite Visa Infinite Privilege
Visa Airport Companion: six lounge visits a year as a standard Visa benefit Not a standard Visa Infinite feature Yes
Specified VIP airport perks in Toronto / Montréal / Ottawa Not listed in Visa’s current regular Infinite benefits Yes
Luxury Hotel Collection base 7 benefits Yes Yes
Extra 8th amenity at 200+ hotels — Yes
OpenTable primetime reservations Currently a VIP programme Yes
RSVP Rewards Yes Yes
Visa Infinite Dining Series Yes Yes
Wine Country Yes Yes, with extra treatment at some wineries
Access Rewards Silver Platinum
Troon Privé private courses Not listed at the same level for regular Infinite Yes
Concierge Yes Yes
Booking.com offer Yes Yes
GigSky offer Yes Yes
TIFF and similar events Yes Yes

Visa Infinite Privilege is not simply “Visa Infinite, doubled.” The upgrades that actually stand out sit in four areas:

airport lounges, priority service at selected airports, the Luxury Hotel Collection’s eighth amenity, OpenTable reservations at popular restaurants, and the higher golf benefits.

That is what you should look at when deciding whether a VIP card’s higher annual fee is worth it.

What should you do first after you get Visa Infinite Privilege?

Most Visa Infinite Privilege benefits do not all switch on the day the card arrives. After you get the card, I would at least:

  1. Register for Visa Airport Companion and activate the six lounge visits each year;

  2. Register the related Visa Infinite / Visa Infinite Privilege accounts and check current offers;

  3. If you stay at Sandman / Sutton Place, register RSVP Rewards;

  4. If you chase popular restaurants, add the card to OpenTable × Visa Dining;

  5. If you play golf, register Access Rewards and activate Platinum status;

  6. Before booking an upscale hotel, search Visa Infinite Luxury Hotel Collection instead of going straight to the hotel site;

  7. Before travelling abroad, check whether GigSky has a usable Visa plan at the time;

  8. Save the Visa Infinite Privilege Concierge number.

Once those are done, the Visa Infinite Privilege identity behind the card actually starts working.

Bottom line

Visa Infinite Privilege is not just a fancier name on a card. The real value is a set of travel and lifestyle upgrades on top of regular Visa Infinite. The pieces most worth watching are six Visa Airport Companion lounge visits a year, priority service at selected Canadian airports, the Luxury Hotel Collection’s eighth amenity, OpenTable reservations at popular restaurants, and Access / Troon golf.

Do not judge a Visa Infinite Privilege card by the letters “VIP” alone. Also ask what the bank stacks on top of the shared Visa Infinite Privilege perks.

An Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege may get most of its value from Maple Leaf Lounge, Air Canada priority, and a companion pass. A bank-points card may get it from a high earn rate, a travel credit, and flexible redemptions. Visa Infinite Privilege is more like a shared premium base layer than the whole story of whether a card is good.

If you already use airport lounges, upscale hotels, popular restaurants, and travel services, that base layer is easy to turn into real value. If you barely use any of those in a year, there is no reason to pay a clearly higher annual fee just for the Visa Infinite Privilege name on the card.
