【October 10, 2026 update】 Partnering with Air Creebec, northern Quebec connects to the rest of Canada on one ticket (from October 21).

Porter Airlines and Air Creebec, a regional airline wholly owned by the Cree, have an interline agreement:

• How it works: Air Creebec’s 16 destinations in northern Quebec and northern Ontario connect through Montreal (YUL) or Timmins (YTS) onto Porter’s domestic network, on one ticket. Timmins also connects to Porter’s Toronto Billy Bishop network
• Coverage: Saguenay, Chibougamau, and Val-d’Or via YUL; Attawapiskat and Moosonee via YTS. Western Canada is reachable year-round through these connections
• On sale: already on sale at flyporter.com, aircreebec.ca, and travel agencies. Flights operate from October 21
• Note: this is an interline agreement, not a codeshare. The press release does not mention VIPorter points reciprocity

【October 6, 2026 update】 Porter Airlines is expanding at London International Airport (YXU) in Ontario, with five new domestic routes. In spring 2027 it plans to launch five new nonstop flights within Canada, linking key cities on the east and west coasts.

Onboard service and experience:

• No middle seats: none of the aircraft have a middle seat.
• Free basics: beer and wine served in a glass, plus premium snacks, for every passenger. The E195-E2 also has free high-speed Wi-Fi.
• Cabins:
  • PorterReserve: an all-inclusive premium cabin, with extra legroom at the front of the aircraft, priority check-in and boarding, two free checked bags, and free hot meals and premium cocktails on longer flights.
  • PorterClassic: basic economy. Buy extras only if you want them.

【September 24, 2026 update】 VIPorter and Blue Rewards launched an account-linking program. The pitch is simple: earn VIPorter points faster, and move points between the two programs.

1. Welcome bonus

• 500 VIPorter points: awarded once you successfully link VIPorter and Blue Rewards.
• 500 Blue Points: unlocks after you earn at least 1 Blue Point at any Blue Rewards partner after linking.

2. Point booster on Porter tickets When you buy flights or extras on Porter’s site (excluding taxes and miscellaneous fees), linking stacks extra VIPorter points on top of your normal membership earn:

• BMO debit or credit cardholders: 1 extra VIPorter point per $1. Use a BMO VIPorter co-brand card at the top membership tier and the combined earn can reach 11 VIPorter points per $1.
• No BMO card: 0.5 extra VIPorter points per $1.

3. Point conversion

• Rate: 2 Blue Points = 1 VIPorter point.
• Minimum: 1,500 Blue Points per transfer (750 VIPorter points).
• When it helps: if you are a few VIPorter points short of an award ticket, you can top up from everyday Blue Points instead of buying the gap in cash.

4. How to link

1. Sign in to Blue Rewards.
2. Open Linked partners and programs in your profile.
3. Choose VIPorter, enter your VIPorter login to verify, and wait for confirmation emails from both programs.

• A free starter pile: no extra spend required. Link the accounts and make one everyday purchase, and you get 500 VIPorter points plus 500 Blue Points.
• A higher return on Porter flights: whatever your VIPorter tier, every eligible ticket purchase earns extra points after linking (from the usual 5–7 points per dollar up to as many as 11). That is a real bump in how fast Porter flying pays you.
• Everyday spend that can become airfare: Blue Rewards partners cover groceries, gas, dining, and other daily spend. The 2:1 transfer lets those points, which would otherwise sit as gift cards or grocery credits, cover part of a Porter ticket.
• Fill a small shortfall: you do not have to pay cash just because you are a few hundred points short of an award.

【September 29, 2025 update】 American Airlines and Porter signed a new codeshare and are now official Porter partners. VIPorter members can earn points on Porter-operated segments going forward.

The airline

Porter Airlines is Canada’s third-largest airline, behind Air Canada and WestJet. Third-largest still means a regional low-cost carrier. It is based in Toronto, with hubs at both YYZ and YTZ, and flies within Canada plus the United States and the Caribbean.

Porter’s mascot is a raccoon named Mr. Porter. Staff uniforms are vintage navy, in the style of 1960s airline fashion.

Fleet

Porter’s fleet has two types: the Embraer E195-E2 and the De Havilland Dash 8-400. Both are 2-2 seating.

Cabins are PorterReserve, PorterClassic stretch, and PorterClassic. Front-cabin seats have a bit more legroom.

Partner airlines

Porter’s partners fall into two groups: VIPorter Partners and Other Partners.

• VIPorter Partners: you can earn and redeem VIPorter points

These are Air Transat and Alaska Airlines.

• Other Partners: you can earn VIPorter points on Porter-operated segments, but you cannot redeem

These are American Airlines (AA), Aeromexico, Azores Airlines (SATA), British Airways, Delta Air Lines, El Al Israel Airlines, Fiji Airways, Icelandair, Japan Airlines, JetBlue, Pascan Aviation, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines.

Elite status

Porter membership levels are Member, Passport, Venture, Ascent, and First. Anyone above the entry-level Member tier is an Avid Traveller.

2.1 Earning status

Status is based on qualifying spend. The minimums for each level are:

Porter qualifying spend includes all related charges except taxes, such as:

• Airfare
• Checked-bag fees
• Seat-selection fees, and similar charges

BMO co-brand cards can also convert card spend into qualifying spend at a set ratio.

2.2 Status benefits

The VIPorter program

Porter’s frequent-flyer program is VIPorter. Earning and spending points is straightforward.

Keep in mind: if the points balance does not change, they expire after 24 months.

Award tickets: Basic fares cannot be changed; Standard changes cost $50; higher fares change for free.

3.1 Earning points

• Flights and related fees

On Porter, members from the base tier to the top tier earn 5 to 7 points per Canadian dollar. See section 2 for the status-benefit details.

On VIPorter partner airlines (Air Transat and Alaska Airlines), bookings made on Porter’s site earn based on spend. Bookings made on the partner airline’s site earn Porter points based on cabin and distance flown.

VIPorter points earned when booking on alaskaair.com or through a travel agency/third party will be based on the number of miles flown, the fare class of your booking and any qualifying bonus.

• Redemption bookings made via other airlines are not eligible for accrual

• Ineligible fares include, but are not limited to redemption and staff travel bookings.

Plus, as an Avid Traveller, you can earn up to 40% more VIPorter points.

3.2 Using points

VIPorter uses dynamic pricing. Average value is about 1.5 Canadian cents per point (1.5 CAD cents/pt). On high-value sweet spots, 2.5–3.5 cpp CAD is common. Points cover the base fare only; they cannot pay airport tax, security fees, or other taxes and fees, which you still pay in cash. Porter also says you can book award tickets for family and friends.

You can redeem on Porter’s own flights: search on flyporter.com or the official app, then switch among Dollars, Points, or Dollars & Points at checkout. Award cabins include PorterClassic (usually the best value) and PorterReserve (the all-inclusive premium cabin).

You can also redeem on partner airlines, including Air Transat and Alaska Airlines, and on connecting itineraries that mix Porter with a partner.

A few redemptions worth chasing

VIPorter is dynamic, but it has floor prices and no blackout dates. That creates a few high-value sweet spots:

Sweet spot 1: last-minute and holiday travel (very high cpp). Cash fares at Christmas, March Break, Thanksgiving, or 1–3 days before departure can jump to $400–$800 CAD, while an award still sitting near the floor (say 8,000–12,000 pts) can look excellent. Example: a last-minute Toronto–Vancouver one-way at $452 CAD ($42 tax, $410 base). If that ticket costs 12,000 pts, the points are worth 3.41 cpp CAD.

Sweet spot 2: 25,000 pts on Air Transat nonstop to Europe. A one-way transatlantic award at the 25,000-point floor is about $375 CAD of base fare at 1.5 cents/pt. In summer, cash Europe tickets often run well over $1,000 CAD, so this is a strong use.

Sweet spot 3: redemption sales. Porter regularly discounts award tickets by 20–30%. During those sales, the 25,000-pt Europe floor can drop to 18,750 pts, and a transcontinental Canada hop such as YYZ–YVR can cost as little as 5,600–6,400 pts one-way. That is a good time to clear a points balance.

3.3 Program features

• PorterReserve certificates for a front-cabin seat

Once you reach $3,000 in qualifying spend (equal to the VIPorter Venture level), you’ll receive one certificate to fly in a PorterReserve seat. You’ll earn one more certificate for every additional $2,000 in qualifying spend during that same calendar year. • Head Start for Avid Traveller members

Unused qualifying spend rolls into the next year.

If you’ve already earned enough qualifying spend to experience your current Avid Traveller level, you will carry over any additional spend into the next year. This gives you a head start towards next year’s VIPorter membership goal!
