3x: Eligible Porter purchases made directly with Porter Airlines, flyporter.com, the Porter call centre, an airport Porter service counter, or onboard earn 3 VIPorter points per $1. The first $20,000 in combined net Porter spend per account per calendar year earns this rate; after that you earn 1x.
2x: Eligible purchases Mastercard classifies as gas or transportation earn 2 VIPorter points per $1. The first $5,000 in combined net spend per account per calendar year earns this rate; after that you earn 1x. Gas stations, bus companies and car rentals are official examples; the actual category follows the Mastercard merchant code.
2x: Eligible purchases Mastercard classifies as dining or grocery earn 2 VIPorter points per $1. The first $10,000 in combined net spend per account per calendar year earns this rate; after that you earn 1x.
2x: Eligible purchases Mastercard classifies as hotels earn 2 VIPorter points per $1. The first $5,000 in combined net spend per account per calendar year earns this rate; after that you earn 1x.

Benefits and insurance
- Annual Companion Pass
The primary cardholder earns one companion pass after $50,000 in eligible net purchases in each account-anniversary period. It is typically available about 4–6 weeks after you qualify. The companion’s base fare is free; taxes, surcharges and other fees still apply. The pass is only for PorterClassic seats on Porter-operated flights, must be used travelling with the primary cardholder, and must be booked within 12 months of issue. Using it on a one-way trip consumes the whole pass.
- Porter Flight Benefits
The primary or additional cardholder, plus up to 8 companions on the same booking, each get 1 free checked bag, 1 free carry-on on all Porter fare types, free PorterClassic seat selection, priority re-accommodation after a delay, dedicated check-in and early boarding. Group bookings (10 or more on the same reservation) do not qualify. Free PorterClassic selection is row 8 and back only, and cannot be used retroactively or refunded.
- VIPorter Avid Traveller and Qualifying Spend
Primary and additional cardholders become Avid Travellers automatically. While the account stays open and in good standing, VIPorter points from any source do not expire. Every $25 in eligible net card spend counts as $1 Qualifying Spend: eligible purchases on each monthly statement divided by 25, rounded up. That figure counts toward VIPorter Avid Traveller progress.
- Mastercard Travel Pass (provided by DragonPass)
After you register in the Mastercard Travel Pass app or website, you can use the lounge network. This card’s membership is free and does not include complimentary visits. Each visit is US$32 per cardholder or guest. Participating lounges and terms can change.
- Instacart+ and monthly credit
BMO currently lists 6 months of Instacart+ and a $10 monthly Instacart credit. You must enrol. Eligibility and dates follow BMO/Instacart terms then in force.

- Out-of-Province/Country Emergency Medical Insurance
Canadian residents aged 64 or under on departure, covered by a Canadian government health plan for the whole trip, with the account in good standing, are covered for the first 21 consecutive days after leaving their home province or territory, up to $5,000,000 per person per trip for sudden and unforeseeable emergency medical expenses. The trip does not have to be charged to this card. Pre-existing-condition stability rules, exclusions, and any extension terms are in the certificate.
- Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption / Trip Delay Insurance
At booking you must pay all or part of the trip cost with this card and/or points, and charge applicable taxes to the card. For a covered cancellation, the limit is $1,500 per person per trip and $5,000 combined. Interruption or delay is $2,000 per person and $10,000 combined. Coverage applies only to sudden and unforeseeable events, subject to covered reasons and exclusions.
- Car Rental – Collision/Loss Damage Insurance
Canadian residents who charge the entire rental to this card, for no more than 48 consecutive days, rent only one vehicle at a time, and decline the rental company’s CDW/LDW, can be covered for damage or theft, valid towing and loss-of-use. Vehicle MSRP is capped at $65,000. This is not third-party liability, property-damage or personal-injury liability insurance.
- Common Carrier Insurance
The full airfare or other eligible common-carrier fare, including taxes, must be paid with this card and/or points. Accidental bodily injury causing death or dismemberment while you are a passenger on, boarding or leaving a licensed common carrier is covered up to $500,000 per insured person and $1,500,000 combined for all insured persons in one accident.
- Flight Delay Insurance
The full commercial-airline ticket, including taxes, must be paid with this card and/or points. If a scheduled flight’s arrival or departure is delayed more than 4 hours, reasonable extra accommodation and transportation can be reimbursed, up to $500 per trip for all insured persons combined. Prepaid costs are not covered.
- Baggage Insurance
The full common-carrier fare, including taxes, must be paid with this card and/or points. Checked or carry-on baggage lost, stolen or accidentally damaged during the trip is covered up to $500 per person and $1,000 combined per trip, $500 per item. Outbound checked baggage delayed more than 6 hours can also cover essentials bought within 36 hours of arrival, with the same limits. Return-trip baggage delay is not covered.
- Hotel Burglary Insurance
The full travel-accommodation cost, including applicable taxes, must be paid with this card and/or points. Personal property lost, stolen or damaged in a burglary at the lodging while you are a registered guest is covered up to $1,000 combined per occurrence for all insured persons. You must keep police and lodging burglary reports. Cash, tickets and items not reasonably secured are excluded.
Purchase insurance
- Purchase Security Insurance
Canadian residents who pay the full purchase price of personal property or a gift, including taxes, with this card and/or points can receive repair, replacement or reimbursement at the insurer’s option for theft or damage worldwide within 90 days of purchase. Combined with extended warranty, the lifetime account maximum is $60,000. Cash, tickets, consumables, and online purchases not yet received are among the exclusions.
- Extended Warranty Insurance
You must pay the full purchase price with this card and/or points, and the original manufacturer warranty must be valid in Canada. Coverage can double the original warranty, up to one extra year, and pays the lower of repair or replacement under the original warranty. It shares the $60,000 lifetime account maximum with purchase security. Lifetime warranties and extended warranties sold by the manufacturer or a third party do not qualify.
