Everyday spending

12.5x: Travel booked through Blue Rewards Travel (powered by Expedia), or spending at participating Blue Rewards Partners, earns 12.5 Blue Points per $1. That return is 1.25 base points plus 11.25 bonus points. Combined eligible net partner spend of up to $25,000 per calendar year earns the bonus points; after the cap, only 1.25x applies. BMO can change the partner list at any time.

2.5x: Spending in Canada that Mastercard codes correctly as a gas station (MCC 5541 or 5542) or EV charging (MCC 5552) earns 2.5 Blue Points per $1. Combined eligible net spend in these categories of up to $1,000 per statement cycle earns the extra 1.25 points; after the cap, only 1.25x applies. If a gas or charging merchant is also a Blue Rewards Partner, the 12.5x partner rules apply instead.

1.25x: Other eligible purchases earn 1.25 Blue Points per $1. Cash advances, cash-like transactions, interest, fees, refunds, and account adjustments do not earn points. Points are rounded down and may post within 90 days after the applicable statement cycle ends. The primary cardholder or business owner must also complete Blue Rewards enrolment, and the account must be in good standing, before points can accumulate.

At participating partners, showing a physical or digital Blue Rewards Member Card can earn member-program points separately from the credit-card points. The member-program earn rate is set by the partner merchant.

Benefits and insurance

  • Mastercard Travel Pass provided by DragonPass

The primary card can register for complimentary membership and receive four complimentary lounge visits each calendar year, which the primary cardholder can use or pay for a travelling companion. You must show the QR code in the Mastercard Travel Pass app or membership documents. After the complimentary visits, each visit is US$32 per person for the cardholder and companions. Available lounges and program terms can change.

  • Maple virtual care

The primary cardholder and a co-owner, if applicable, each receive a registration email within 14 days of account opening and must register through that email. While BMO continues to offer the benefit, each person gets five complimentary virtual care visits per calendar year. Unused visits expire if the account is closed. The service can also be used outside Canada, but specialist services may cost extra.

  • Employee cards and account management

You can add up to 22 employee cards at $50 each per year. BMO’s online and mobile banking tools can manage employee cards, set card limits, lock or unlock cards immediately, and show account and transaction details. Employee-card spending can help the business earn Blue Points.

  • BMO Business Credit Card Waiver of Liability Program

The product page confirms this program can protect against employee-card misuse. Coverage amounts, claim requirements, limits, and exclusions follow the Program Description that comes with the new card. The public product page does not publish the full terms, so this article does not infer a specific payout range.

  • Roadside assistance

The website lists 24/7 battery boosts, tire changes, lockouts, and towing. The product page does not publish visit limits, towing distance, or detailed eligibility for each service. Confirm the details in the materials that come with the card and with the provider’s current terms before you use it.

  • Mastercard Easy Savings™ and partner offers

After you enrol, eligible merchant spending can automatically receive a statement rebate. BMO also lists offers such as H&R Block, Cirque du Soleil, Instacart+, and Avis/Budget. Merchants, enrolment, available locations, dates, and other limits differ and can change.

  • BMO PaySmart™ instalment plan

Eligible purchases can be converted into a monthly payment plan. BMO shows the applicable cost, term, and other terms when you set up the plan. This is not free insurance or a fixed perk that comes automatically with the card.

Travel insurance

Official insurance certificate 🔗

  • Out-of-Province/Country Emergency Medical Insurance

Canadian residents under 65 on the departure date, covered by a Canadian government health plan for the entire trip, and with an account in good standing can qualify. Coverage can include the primary cardholder, spouse/dependent children, and employees of the same Canadian employer who are travelling with the primary cardholder. Sudden and unforeseeable emergency medical expenses are covered up to $5,000,000 per person per trip for the first 15 consecutive days after leaving the home province or territory. The trip does not have to be charged to this Card. You must contact the Operations Centre within 24 hours of an emergency. Important exclusions include pre-existing conditions that were not stable in the 180 days before departure, non-emergency or elective treatment, travel against medical advice, and situations related to alcohol or drug abuse.

  • Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption / Trip Delay Insurance

Canadian residents must charge all or part of the trip cost to this Card, or pay with Blue Points and charge the taxes to this Card, and the account must be in good standing. If a covered reason forces cancellation before departure, unused prepaid and non-transferable arrangements are covered up to $1,500 per person and $5,000 combined for the same trip. After departure, interruption or delay can cover unused arrangements and eligible one-way economy return costs up to $2,000 per person and $10,000 combined for the same trip. You must notify the Operations Centre within 48 hours of the incident. Known events, and pre-existing conditions that were not stable in the 180 days before departure for travellers 64 or under, or in the 365 days before departure for travellers 65 or over, may not be covered.

  • Car Rental – Collision/Loss Damage Insurance

A Canadian-resident primary cardholder must sign a non-renewable rental agreement with a commercial rental company, charge the full rental to this Card (or pay with points and charge the remaining balance and taxes to this Card), and decline the rental company’s CDW/LDW. Eligible rentals last no more than 48 consecutive days, and the vehicle’s MSRP can be no more than $65,000. Coverage can include vehicle theft or damage, eligible towing, and loss-of-use. A rental longer than 48 days voids the coverage. This benefit does not provide third-party liability, property-damage, or personal-injury liability coverage, and it is supplementary to other insurance. Contact the Operations Centre immediately after an incident.

  • Common Carrier Insurance

Canadian residents must charge the full eligible common-carrier fare to this Card, or pay with points and charge the taxes to this Card. The primary cardholder, spouse/dependent children, and eligible Canadian employees travelling with the primary cardholder can receive up to $500,000 per person for accidental death or specified losses of limb, sight, or hearing listed in the certificate, while boarding, riding as a passenger in, or leaving a licensed common carrier. The combined maximum for all insured people in the same accident is $1,500,000, and only the single highest applicable loss is paid. The loss must occur within one year of the accident.

  • Flight Delay Insurance

Canadian residents must charge the full commercial-airline ticket to this Card, or pay with points and charge the taxes to this Card. When a scheduled flight’s arrival or departure is delayed more than four hours, reasonable extra accommodation and transportation costs caused by the delay can be reimbursed up to $500 combined for all insured people on the same trip. Prepaid costs are not covered. Contact the Operations Centre immediately after you learn of the delay. Airline bankruptcy or insolvency, war or terrorism, and travel involving sanctioned countries are among the exclusions.

  • Baggage Insurance

Canadian residents must charge the full airfare to this Card before departure, or pay with points and charge the taxes to this Card. Baggage, personal items, and business property checked or carried on a common carrier are covered for loss, theft, or damage up to $500 per person and $1,000 combined per trip, with a $500 per-item cap. If checked baggage is delayed more than six hours on the outbound trip, you can buy essentials within 36 hours of arriving at the destination, up to $500 per person per occurrence and $2,000 per person per calendar year. There is no baggage-delay coverage on the return trip. Ordinary wear and tear, cash, and motor vehicles are not covered.

  • Hotel Burglary Insurance

Canadian residents must charge the full travel accommodation cost to this Card, or pay with points and charge the taxes to this Card. While registered as a guest, personal or business property lost or damaged because of a burglary at the accommodation is reimbursed at the applicable lower of actual replacement value, equivalent replacement, or repair cost, up to $1,000 combined for all insured people in the same burglary. Cash and perishables, unexplained disappearance, and losses caused by failing to reasonably protect property or the accommodation are not covered. Contact the Operations Centre immediately after you discover the incident.

  • General claim conditions

In addition to the immediate, 24-hour, or 48-hour notice each coverage requires, the certificate says written claim notice should be submitted within 30 days of the incident, and satisfactory proof of claim within 90 days. If that is not reasonably possible, submit the materials as soon as you can, and no later than one year after the incident. The insurance is generally supplementary to other available insurance, compensation, or refunds.

Purchase insurance

  • Purchase Security Insurance

Canadian residents must charge the full purchase price of a personal item, business property, or gift, including taxes, to this Card. Items redeemed with Blue Points can also qualify, but the taxes must be charged to this Card. If points cover only part of the price, the remaining balance must also be charged to this Card. For most eligible goods, theft or damage worldwide within 90 days of purchase can be repaired, replaced, or reimbursed at the purchase price, at the insurer’s discretion. Purchase security and extended warranty share a lifetime maximum of $60,000 per account, and this is supplementary coverage after other insurance or warranties. Cash, tickets, animals and plants, consumables/perishables, undelivered online purchases, jewellery or furs not in your personal care, and items left behind are not covered.

  • Extended Warranty Insurance

The payment rules are the same as purchase security, and the original manufacturer’s warranty must be valid in Canada. Coverage doubles the original warranty, up to one extra year, and pays the lower of repair or replacement cost under the original warranty terms. If the original warranty is longer than five years, you must register with the Operations Centre within one year of purchase. Lifetime-warranty goods, warranties after the manufacturer has gone out of business, and items the original warranty did not cover are excluded. This benefit shares the $60,000 lifetime account maximum with purchase security and uses the same 30-day notice and 90-day proof claim timelines listed above.
