On September 26, the points community lit up over a leak: a brand-new elite tier, Black Diamond, showed up in Hilton internal training materials, sitting above Diamond. That would mean Hilton may launch two top-of-diamond tiers in a single year.

The headline first: Hilton has not announced this. Qualifying rules, benefits, and whether it will be publicly attainable are all unknown. Given what Hilton has already done this year, though, this is not coming out of nowhere.

What’s in the leak

According to LoyaltyLobby on September 26, Hilton’s internal materials show this hierarchy, from top to bottom:

Black Diamond > The Honors Society > Diamond Reserve > Lifetime Diamond > Diamond

Diamond Reserve and The Honors Society are both names that only appeared in the past year. Black Diamond is the first time this one has surfaced. The leak itself notes this may be internal training material and not a guaranteed launch—but The Honors Society started the same way.

Timeline: Hilton’s extra-tier path

  • January 2026: Diamond Reserve launched. The threshold is 80 nights or 40 stays and $18,000 in qualifying spend for the year. Both requirements have to be met. Benefits include a guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout, upgrade priority, and dedicated support.
  • Late 2025: Internal materials first showed an invite-only The Honors Society. By June this year it was in a marketing ad starring Paris Hilton, which is as close to public as it gets without a full launch.
  • September 2026: Internal materials leaked Black Diamond, still above The Honors Society.

Two extra top tiers in one year is rare even in hotel loyalty history.

Why Hilton can’t stop

The core problem in one line: Diamond status is getting watered down.

American Express Hilton cobrand cards (especially Aspire) grant Diamond on issue. A flood of “card Diamond” members has diluted the elite pool. Heavy stay guests complain upgrades are hard and perks are shrinking. Hilton’s fix is not to tighten Diamond. It is to keep adding a floor on top—a new, harder-to-reach ceiling for the highest spenders.

In that logic, Black Diamond is likely invite-only, aimed at guests with extremely high annual spend. People in the community are already groaning: two new layers in a year. This kind of status inflation is not sustainable.

What it means for regular members

Honestly, almost nothing in the short term. Even if Black Diamond launches, it will not matter to 99% of members. Two signals are still worth watching:

  1. Diamond keeps losing value: Every extra layer makes Diamond worth a little less. The return on getting Diamond from a cobrand card is being diluted.
  2. Upgrade benefits may be rebuilt: The biggest draw when Diamond Reserve launched was confirmable upgrades, a piece Hilton had long lacked versus Marriott and Hyatt. If Black Diamond lands, the upgrade stack may get reshuffled again.

Our take

Treat this as leak tracking for now. The source is internal materials, more credible than gossip, less than an official announcement. Until Hilton publishes it, do not make card or status-retention decisions based on this.

I will keep following it and update this article if it is announced. Given Hilton’s pace this year, the other shoe may not take long to drop.
