Everyday Spending
7x: Earn 7x at Hilton properties and resorts when you pay directly. Advance bookings must be made through Hilton-operated booking channels. Hotel dining, spa, and similar charges can also earn the additional 4x, for a total of 7x, when they are charged to your room and paid with this card at checkout.
5x: Earn 5x at U.S. restaurants, U.S. supermarkets, and U.S. gas stations. Grocery purchases at superstores, warehouse clubs, convenience stores, and meal-kit delivery services, along with fuel bought at supermarkets, superstores, or warehouse clubs, earn only 3x. U.S. restaurant brands outside the United States, nightclubs, convenience stores, grocery stores, supermarkets, and transactions that do not code as U.S. restaurants also do not earn 5x.
3x: Earn 3x on other eligible purchases. Annual fees and interest, cash advances, traveller’s cheques, prepaid-card purchases or reloads, gift cards, person-to-person payments, and other cash equivalents are not eligible purchases. Merchant category codes, third-party sellers or payment processors, and some digital-wallet transactions may also prevent you from earning a category bonus.
Perks & Insurance
- Complimentary Hilton Honors Silver Status
Available to the Basic Card Member only. Amex says it can take up to 12 weeks after account opening for Silver status to be applied to your Hilton Honors account. This complimentary status ends if you cancel the card. Hotel elite benefits remain subject to availability.
- Upgrade to Hilton Honors Gold Status through spending
Spend US$20,000 in eligible purchases on the account during a calendar year, from January 1 to December 31, to upgrade to Hilton Honors Gold. Additional Card spending counts toward the threshold, but only the Basic Card Member receives the upgrade. Amex says it takes roughly 10–12 weeks after qualifying to take effect. Gold status lasts through the end of the year you qualify and the end of the following calendar year; you must qualify again in a future year or meet Hilton Honors’ regular requirements to retain it.
- Amex Offers
Enrol in each offer through your online Amex account or the Amex App before making the qualifying purchase. Whether you receive an offer, which merchants participate, and the spending requirements and expiry date all depend on that offer’s terms.
- Amex Presale Tickets® and Amex Reserved Tickets®
These can provide access to presale or reserved seats at select events. You must pay with an Amex card; availability, eligible seats, purchase limits, sale windows, and refund or exchange rules are set by the event and ticketing provider.
- American Express Venue Collection™
Some events at participating stadiums and venues offer a Card Member entrance or fast lane. You need a valid event ticket and an Amex card in your name. Hours, guest access, and availability vary by venue and event, and the benefit can change or be withdrawn.
Travel-related insurance
Official insurance certificate🔗
- Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance
Use the card to reserve and pay for the entire rental period, decline the full Collision Damage Waiver and similar coverage at the counter, and have the eligible renter sign the rental agreement. Each rental agreement can cover damage to or theft of an eligible rental vehicle for up to 30 consecutive days, with a maximum benefit of US$50,000. Where permitted by the terms, it can also cover loss-of-use, appraisal, towing, storage, administrative fees, and legally required depreciation or diminution-of-value charges. This is secondary insurance, which pays after other available coverage or compensation sources; it can cover another policy’s deductible as long as that does not create an overpayment. Rentals in Australia, Italy, New Zealand, and OFAC-sanctioned countries are excluded. So are liability coverage, personal injury, off-road use, unauthorised drivers, driving while intoxicated, damage or theft when the vehicle is left unlocked, most trucks or cargo vans, limousines, motorcycles, peer-to-peer rentals, and rentals longer than 30 days. Notify Amex within 30 days of the loss, or as soon as reasonably possible. After receiving instructions or a claim form, submit proof of loss within 60 days; a police report may be required.
Shopping-related insurance
- Purchase Protection
When you make one original charge with the card for a tangible item bought for personal use, business use, or as a gift, accidental damage and theft can be covered for 90 days from purchase. The maximum is US$1,000 per eligible item and US$50,000 per eligible card per calendar year; each natural-disaster event is capped at US$500. This is secondary coverage, paying only the amount left after insurance, retailer, or manufacturer compensation, and it may cover another plan’s deductible without exceeding the loss. Lost or mysteriously disappeared items, normal wear, product defects, damage or theft while an item is in a third party’s or carrier’s care, inadequately safeguarded property, consumables, gift cards or cash, used items, rentals, motorised devices, and goods for resale or professional use are excluded. Notify Amex within 30 days of the incident, or as soon as reasonably possible, and submit proof of loss within 60 days after receiving instructions. Theft or intentional damage must be reported to the appropriate authorities before you file a claim.
- Extended Warranty
Make one original charge with the card for an eligible tangible item to extend an original manufacturer warranty valid in the United States, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory by up to one year. The original warranty and any purchased service contract cannot total more than five years. Coverage begins after the later of the manufacturer warranty and service contract, and follows the scope of the original manufacturer warranty. The maximum is US$10,000 per item and US$50,000 per eligible card per calendar year, with secondary coverage. Physical damage, unless the original manufacturer warranty already covers it, items with a combined warranty longer than five years, consumables, used items, rentals, motorised devices, software, goods for resale or professional use, and repairs by unauthorised providers or with non-approved parts are excluded. Notify Amex within 30 days of a covered breakdown, or as soon as reasonably possible, then submit proof of loss within 60 days after receiving instructions.
