In late January 2026, Etihad Airways officially announced that it will launch a new nonstop route from Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) to Calgary International Airport (YYC) beginning November 3, 2026. It will be the first nonstop service connecting the Middle East with Western Canada, marking an important step in Etihad’s global network expansion.
Etihad Guest Loyalty Program: A Detailed Guide
A first for Western Canada and the Middle East
Previously, there were no nonstop flights between Calgary and Abu Dhabi. Travelers could only reach the Middle East through connecting flights in North America or Europe. Based on route data, the fastest itineraries from Calgary to Abu Dhabi currently require a transfer at another hub, with total travel times usually exceeding 18 hours.
The new nonstop route will directly connect the two cities:
- Service frequency: Four flights weekly
- Aircraft: Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
- Outbound EY29: Abu Dhabi 08:45 → Calgary 12:20
- Return EY30: Calgary 18:05 → Abu Dhabi 19:00 (next day)
- Operating days: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday
- Distance and duration: Approximately 7,184 miles and around 14 hours, varying by season and wind conditions
This will be not only Etihad’s first nonstop destination in Calgary, but also the only direct route between Western Canada and the United Arab Emirates.

Another option for getting home from Western Canada
Etihad Airways already operates routes to Beijing and Shanghai.
Hopefully, Etihad will strengthen its partnership with WestJet so that through itineraries can reach destinations across Canada.
Award flights?
If you are considering Etihad’s own points, they can be transferred from Amex Membership Rewards and other U.S. bank programs.
The blog has also covered how Flying Blue points can redeem Etihad flights. Once tickets on this route become available, it will be worth watching to see whether award redemptions make sense. We will continue to follow it.
