Who it suits: This card works well if you want to build an Aeroplan balance without paying an annual fee, especially if you regularly buy groceries, fill up, or fly Air Canada. Other spending earns the equivalent of 0.67x, so if most of your spending falls outside the bonus categories, the no-fee structure matters more than the points return.

Annual fee: $0 for the primary card; $0 for up to 3 supplementary cards

Welcome Offer
【October 15, 2026 update】 10,000 Aeroplan points:
- Earn 2,500 Aeroplan points after the first purchase.
- Earn 2,500 Aeroplan points after spending $1,500 during the first 4 monthly statement periods.
- Earn an additional 5,000 Aeroplan points as an anniversary bonus after at least $10,000 in net purchases are posted during the first 12 monthly statement periods.
Income requirement: minimum annual household income of $15,000.
Earning Aeroplan Points
1x: Earn 1 Aeroplan point per $1 on eligible grocery, gas, EV-charging, and direct Air Canada purchases, including Air Canada Vacations. This bonus rate applies only to the first $40,000 of net annual card purchases on the account, shared across all cardholders and merchant categories. After that cap, net purchases earn 0.67x. The allowance resets the day after the December statement is printed.
0.67x: Other eligible purchases earn 1 Aeroplan point per $1.50. Returns, cash advances, CIBC Global Money Transfers, interest, fees, balance transfers, payments, optional credit-card insurance premiums and related taxes, and CIBC Convenience Cheques do not earn points. The account must also remain in good standing on each monthly statement date. Recurring cable, telephone, streaming, and other participating-merchant bill payments can earn the regular points rate.
Benefits & Insurance
- Authorized Users
The primary cardmember can add up to 3 supplementary cards at no annual fee. Supplementary-card spending counts toward the account’s spending and earns Aeroplan points under the card’s rules.
- Earn Aeroplan Points Twice through the Aeroplan eStore
When you shop with more than 150 Aeroplan partner brands or at more than 170 online retailers through the Aeroplan eStore, you can earn the partner or eStore points as well as this card’s points when you provide your Aeroplan number and use the card as required. Participating merchants and tracking rules follow the Aeroplan programme.
- Aeroplan Points Will Not Expire
Aeroplan points do not expire for lack of account activity as long as the primary cardmember continues to hold the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Card and the account meets the programme requirements.
- 100% Air Canada Seat Availability
If an Air Canada seat is still available for purchase with cash, Aeroplan also makes that seat available for points redemption, with no blackout periods. Aeroplan terms still apply. The Benefits Guide describes a network of more than 200 Air Canada destinations and more than 1,300 partner destinations.
- Aeroplan Preferred Pricing
The primary cardmember may be able to book flight rewards with fewer Aeroplan points. The required points depend on whether you hold an eligible co-branded card, the route, date, cabin, and Aeroplan’s rules at the time; not every award flight has a fixed discount.
- No Cash Surcharges on Air Canada Flight Rewards
Aeroplan does not charge an airline cash surcharge when you redeem points for Air Canada flights. Taxes, airport charges, and other third-party fees may still apply.
- Points Plus Cash
When booking an Aeroplan flight reward, you can combine points and cash. Where permitted, points can also cover taxes, fees, surcharges, and other third-party charges; the redemption ratios and restrictions follow Aeroplan’s rules.
- Aeroplan Family Sharing
Aeroplan Family Sharing lets you combine points with other Aeroplan members in the same household, subject to the programme’s eligibility and usage rules.
- Get a Fourth Night Free on Aeroplan Hotel Redemptions
When you redeem Aeroplan points for 4 consecutive nights at the same participating hotel under one reservation, you can skip the points cost of one night based on the average points cost. Eight consecutive nights can qualify for two free nights under the same rules. The current offer ends December 31, 2026 unless extended. Points-only bookings are required; cash and points-plus-cash bookings do not qualify. Air Canada’s official information🔗

CIBC has announced that Preferred Pricing will be replaced with a 15% reduction in the Aeroplan points required for the base fare of eligible Air Canada flight rewards. The benefit will apply to qualifying Air Canada itineraries booked through the Air Canada website, app, or contact centre. Taxes, fees, surcharges, and third-party purchases are excluded. This is a future change; Preferred Pricing remains the current rule until then.
- The Fourth-Night Benefit’s Expiry Date Removed from January 12, 2027
The current expiry date for the fourth-night hotel benefit will be removed. The future benefit will apply to eligible Aeroplan point redemptions at participating hotels worldwide. Consecutive-night, same-hotel, single-reservation, and points-only conditions will still follow the new Benefits Guide and Aeroplan terms.
- Get a Fourth Rental Day Free from January 12, 2027
CIBC will add a benefit for Aeroplan point bookings with participating rental companies: after 4 consecutive rental days, the points cost of one day based on the average points cost can be waived. The benefit will cover more than 11,000 rental locations worldwide. Cash and points-plus-cash bookings do not qualify; providers, fees, and redemption rules will follow the terms in effect at the time. View CIBC’s change notice🔗
Travel Insurance
Official insurance certificate 🔗
- Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage Insurance
Canadian residents must charge the full rental cost, including taxes, to the card and decline the rental company’s CDW/LDW. Qualifying vehicles are covered for collision, damage, loss, or theft; if points pay part of the rental, the remaining amount must be charged to the card. The vehicle’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price must be no more than $85,000, and the maximum rental period is 48 consecutive days. Coverage is limited to actual cash value and eligible loss-of-use charges, with no deductible. Third-party liability, personal injury, and property other than the rental vehicle are excluded. Report the accident or loss within 48 hours, submit initial documents within 45 days, and provide all documents within 90 days.
- Common Carrier Accident Insurance
Canadian residents travelling by plane, ferry, train, bus, or another common carrier can qualify when at least 75% of the fare including taxes is charged to the card, or when eligible card points are used to redeem the fare. Coverage for accidental death or dismemberment is up to $100,000 per insured person. The primary cardmember’s spouse and dependent children are covered; an authorized user who is not the spouse or a dependent child is not covered under this benefit. Sickness, intentional self-harm, criminal acts, alcohol or drug impairment, war, and riots are excluded. Notify the insurer as soon as possible, and where possible in writing within 90 days of the loss.
Purchase Protection
- Purchase Security Insurance
Canadian residents who buy a new personal item or gift and charge at least part of the price to the card can apply for coverage if the item is lost, stolen, or accidentally damaged within 90 days of purchase. Registration is not required. The benefit is limited to the lesser of the repair cost, the item’s actual cash value immediately before the loss, or the amount charged to the card. The aggregate limit is $60,000 per cardholder across all CIBC cards. Business or commercial purchases, used or refurbished items, normal wear, mysterious disappearance, services, perishables, vehicles, cash, and other items listed in the certificate are excluded. Give notice within 45 days and submit the Loss Report within 90 days; repairs require prior approval.
- Extended Protection Insurance
When at least part of the purchase price is charged to the card and the original manufacturer’s warranty is honoured in Canada or the United States, the manufacturer’s warranty can automatically be extended by up to one additional year. Registration is usually not required, but an item with a manufacturer’s warranty longer than 5 years must be registered during the first year. This benefit shares the $60,000 aggregate limit per cardholder across all CIBC cards. Dealer, assembler, or service warranties, improper installation, alterations, and repairs not covered by the original manufacturer’s warranty are excluded. The same 45-day notice and 90-day Loss Report deadlines apply, along with prior approval for repairs.
