Everyday Spending

5x: Tickets, seat upgrades, Economy Plus, inflight food/beverages/Wi-Fi, baggage service fees, and other United charges purchased directly from United, plus Chase United Card Events. United Cruises, MileagePlus X, DIRECTV, Merchandise Awards, and United tickets bought through some discount travel sites or third-party packages do not qualify.

5x: Prepaid hotel stays booked through Chase Travel’s Renowned Hotels and Resorts for United Cardmembers. If part of the stay is paid with miles, only the portion charged to the card earns this rate. Bookings through FROSCH, Valerie Wilson Travel, or Frosch International Travel do not qualify.

2x: Travel purchases outside the eligible United spending above, including airfare, trains, local transit, cruises, hotels, car rentals, taxis, resorts, rideshare, and tolls, plus restaurants, takeout, and eligible delivery services. Whether a transaction falls into a category depends on the merchant code.

1x: Other eligible purchases. Balance transfers, cash advances, cash-like transactions, gambling, person-to-person transfers, interest, fraudulent transactions, and fees of any kind (including the annual fee) do not earn miles.

Benefits & Insurance

  • United Club membership (United Club Card Membership)

United Club membership usually activates about 2 weeks after account opening. The primary cardmember may bring one adult guest and dependent children under 18 into United Club on each visit. Authorized users do not receive separate membership and may enter only when travelling with the primary cardmember and under the guest rules then in effect. Star Alliance lounges are not included. Membership renews automatically each credit-card anniversary and ends if the account is closed.

  • United Club All Access (United Club All Access Membership)

If the primary cardmember reaches Premier Gold or higher in a calendar year, or makes more than $50,000 in net purchases on this card, they can earn All Access eligibility through the end of that calendar year and the next. One of those conditions must be met again each year to keep it. All Access cardmembers may bring two adults, or one adult plus dependent children under 18, and may also use applicable Star Alliance lounges. If you have both All Access and an authorized user on the anniversary date, you can receive 4 one-time United Club passes.

  • Cardmember Award Pricing and Award Flight Discount

When the primary cardmember books United or United Express award flights while signed into their own MileagePlus account, cardmember pricing applies: general members use at least 10% fewer miles than members without a qualifying card, and Premier members use at least 15% fewer. It does not apply to Money + Miles, cash tickets, or other redemptions. After $20,000 in eligible purchases in a calendar year, you can also earn one 10,000-mile award-flight discount, up to two per year; each discount expires 12 months after it is issued.

  • Free Checked Bags and Premier Access

The primary cardmember and one companion on the same reservation each get the first and second standard checked bags free. You must buy the United ticket with this card and include a MileagePlus number on the reservation; flights completed in the first 90 days after account opening do not require the ticket to be charged to the card. Coverage is limited to flights operated by United or United Express and does not apply to codeshares; oversized, overweight, and extra-bag fees may still apply. The primary cardmember and a companion on the same reservation also get Premier Access services such as priority check-in, security, boarding, and baggage handling where offered at the airport.

  • Partner Credits and Trusted Traveler Statement Credit

The official site lists annual credits of up to $200 for prepaid Renowned Hotels and Resorts stays, up to $150 for rideshare after enrollment, up to $100 in United Travel Credit for Avis or Budget rentals booked directly through cars.united.com, up to $240 for direct Instacart purchases, and up to $200 for flights bought directly from JSX. Each credit must be charged to this card and is subject to its own terms and eligibility rules. When the primary or an authorized user pays the first application fee for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS directly with this card, you can receive one statement credit of up to $120 every four years. Third-party processing or travel-agency transactions do not qualify.

  • PQP (Premier Qualifying Points)

Starting the calendar year after account opening, the account receives 1,500 Card Bonus PQP each year within 6–8 weeks after February 1. The account must have been open on December 31 of the prior year and in good standing when the bonus posts. You also earn 1 PQP per $15 in net purchases, up to 28,000 PQP per calendar year. Balance transfers, cash advances, cash-like transactions, gambling, interest, fees, and refunds do not count.

Travel insurance

  • Auto Rental Coverage

When the primary renter pays the entire rental with this card and/or redeemable rewards and declines the rental company’s CDW/LDW, primary coverage applies worldwide for collision or theft losses up to $60,000, including substantiated loss-of-use charges, administrative fees, and reasonable towing. Continuous rentals may last up to 31 days. For New York residents renting in the United States who also have personal auto insurance, coverage is secondary; if a foreign rental location will not let you decline CDW/LDW, coverage is secondary to that required coverage. Vehicles valued above $125,000, antique cars, cargo vans, motorcycles, exotic or chauffeur-driven cars, RVs, passenger vans with more than 12 seats, liability or bodily injury, and vehicles from peer-to-peer car-sharing platforms are among the exclusions. Report an accident or theft as soon as possible and no later than 100 days, then submit documents within 365 days.

  • Baggage Delay Insurance

When all or part of a common-carrier fare is paid with this card and/or redeemable rewards, and a covered traveller’s checked baggage is delayed or misdirected by the carrier for more than 6 hours after arrival at the destination, essential personal items may be reimbursed. After the first 6 hours, the limit is up to $100 per day for a maximum of 3 days. Coverage runs from the departure date through the trip completion date, does not apply after return to the departure point, and requires that you first report the delay to the carrier. This is secondary coverage. Report the delay within 20 days and submit required documents within 90 days.

  • Emergency Evacuation and Transportation

When all or part of a covered trip is paid with this card and/or redeemable rewards, and a serious illness or injury during travel requires emergency evacuation or transportation, eligible expenses are covered up to $1,000,000. If death occurs during travel, eligible expenses to return remains to the country of primary residence are covered up to $1,000. Expenses must be authorized and arranged by the service provider or they will not be reimbursed; travel warnings, sanctions, and local service availability can limit coverage. This is a third-party service; the official guide states that it is not insurance.

  • Lost Luggage Reimbursement

When all or part of a common-carrier fare is paid with this card and/or redeemable rewards, checked baggage, carry-on baggage, or personal items inside them that are lost, damaged, or stolen while in the carrier’s care or during travel may be reimbursed for the difference between actual cash value (replacement cost less depreciation) and any carrier payment. The limit is $3,000 per traveller per trip, including a combined maximum of $500 for jewelry and watches and a combined maximum of $500 for cameras and other electronics. Items left behind on a carrier are not treated as lost. Report the loss to the carrier within its required period, then file with the benefit administrator within 20 days and submit documents within 90 days.

  • Travel Accident Insurance

When all or part of a common-carrier fare is paid with this card and/or redeemable rewards, covered travellers who die or lose a limb, sight, speech, or hearing because of a travel accident may receive a benefit. The 24-hour travel-accident maximum is $100,000, and the common-carrier travel-accident maximum is $500,000. Twenty-four-hour coverage generally ends at the close of day 30 of the trip, and for longer trips it stops at 12:01 a.m. on day 31; the loss must occur within one year of the accident. Material exclusions include war, self-inflicted injury, and being under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances. Report the accident or loss within 20 days and submit documents within 90 days.

  • Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance

When all or part of a trip is paid with this card and/or redeemable rewards, the cardmember and eligible family members who cancel or interrupt a trip for a covered reason may be reimbursed for non-refundable prepaid travel-supplier costs, change fees, and rewards-program redeposit fees. Limits are $10,000 per person, $20,000 combined per trip, and $40,000 per account every 12 months, and no more than the amount actually charged to the card or paid with rewards. Trips may last no longer than 60 days, and coverage is secondary. Change of plans, pre-existing conditions, common-carrier insolvency, war, and reasons not listed are among the exclusions. Report a cancellation or interruption within 20 days and submit required documents within 90 days.

  • Trip Delay Reimbursement

When all or part of a common-carrier fare is paid with this card and/or redeemable rewards, and a delay of more than 12 hours or an overnight stay is caused by equipment failure, severe weather, a strike, or hijacking, reasonable extra expenses such as meals, lodging, toiletries, and medication may be reimbursed. The limit is $500 per covered traveller per trip, and coverage is secondary. Report the delay within 60 days and submit required documents within 100 days.

Shopping insurance

  • Extended Warranty Protection

When all or part of an eligible item is paid with this card and/or redeemable rewards and a valid original U.S. manufacturer repair warranty applies, coverage adds one extra year after the original, store, and any separately purchased service contracts end. Original or combined warranties longer than 3 years do not qualify, and all warranties together may not exceed 4 years from the purchase date. Payment is the lower of the repair cost, like-kind replacement cost, the amount actually charged to the card or rewards, $10,000 per item, or $50,000 per account per year. Only failures the original manufacturer warranty would have covered are eligible. Motor vehicles, boats, aircraft, items for resale or business use, leased items, software, medical equipment, and used goods are among the exclusions. Report a product failure within 90 days and submit documents within 120 days.

  • Purchase Protection

When all or part of an eligible item is paid with this card and/or redeemable rewards, theft, damage, or involuntary and accidental parting within 120 days of purchase (90 days for New York residents) may be covered for the lower of the repair cost, like-kind replacement cost, the amount actually charged to the card or rewards, $10,000 per item, or $50,000 per calendar year. Coverage is secondary and can fill gaps left by other valid insurance, including deductibles. Animals and plants, antiques and collectibles, motor vehicles, software, items for resale or business use, unexplained disappearances without evidence, items in a carrier’s care, items in checked baggage, cash/tickets, and normal wear and tear are among the exclusions. Report a loss within 90 days and submit documents within 120 days; some incidents may also require an incident report within 48 hours.

  • Return Protection

If you are dissatisfied with an item within 90 days of purchase and the retailer refuses a refund, exchange, or store credit, and the full purchase amount was paid with this card and/or redeemable rewards, you may be reimbursed up to $500 of the personal-property purchase price per item (excluding shipping, handling, and tax), with a maximum of $1,000 per account every 12 months. Coverage is secondary, and you must first exhaust other recovery options. The item must be in good or near-new condition. Purchases made outside the United States, damaged or non-working goods, jewelry and art, formal wear, food and consumables, software, motor vehicles, medical equipment, and real-estate-related items are among the exclusions. File within 90 days of purchase, and submit the documents the administrator requests within 120 days of purchase.
