Giving an AI a path to a live brokerage account raises an obvious safety question. Questrade keeps a hard split in the design:

  • Your password stays private: login happens entirely on Questrade’s own page. The AI never sees your username or password.
  • The AI cannot place trades on its own: it drafts; it does not decide. It cannot submit, change, or cancel an order. Every draft still needs Push Approval in the mobile app before it hits the market.
  • You control the permissions: when you connect, you can grant read-only access only, and you can revoke the connection in account settings at any time.

What everyday investors can actually use it for

  • Portfolio review and diagnostics: skip the Excel spreadsheet. Ask the AI to check concentration, sector mix, or the last three months of drawdowns and returns.
  • Research and options screening: compare valuations and earnings across a short list of names, or have the AI filter option structures that match a specific strategy.
