Benefits & Insurance
- Online transaction verification (Mastercard ID Check)
Mastercard ID Check verifies your identity on online purchases to help prevent fraud. Unauthorized transactions are covered by Mastercard Zero Liability, subject to Mastercard’s terms.
- Card management features
You can lock, unlock, or replace the card, and set balance alerts, travel notices, and pre-authorized payment schedules. The official site says these account features have no annual fee.
Shopping Insurance
- Purchase Protection and Extended Warranty
Eligible new movable property must be paid entirely by the cardholder with this card. Theft or accidental damage within 90 days of purchase is covered. A manufacturer’s warranty that is valid in Canada is automatically doubled for a maximum of one extra year. If the original warranty is longer than five years, you must contact the insurer to register the purchase. Benefits do not exceed the purchase price charged to the account. Purchase protection and extended warranty together pay a maximum of $60,000 while the account is active, with no deductible. Gift cards, currency, tickets, and other items listed in the certificate are not covered. If the manufacturer’s warranty or another policy has already paid, the insurer coordinates payment under the certificate.
- Repair or replacement of mobile devices
A new phone must be charged in full to this account, or financed so that every monthly payment posts consecutively to this card. A device with cellular transmission must also be activated by the carrier. Coverage starts on the later of the 60th day after purchase or the date the second monthly payment posts, ends no later than two years after purchase, and covers damage, loss, or theft. The payout is the lowest of replacement cost, repair cost, and depreciated value, minus the applicable deductible, up to $1,000. Depreciation is 3% of the purchase price per month. No benefit is paid if one mobile-device claim was already paid in the past 12 months, or two in the past four years.
- Filing a Claim
Report theft or vandalism to police immediately and get a report. Call CanAssistance as soon as the event occurs, and ideally submit the form and complete supporting documents within 90 days. A late claim that prejudices the insurer may be denied. A mobile-device claim also needs proof of purchase, monthly statements or consecutive monthly-payment proof, a carrier loss report if applicable, and a repair quote. After the insurer accepts the claim, it may require the repair or replacement cost to be charged to this card before paying the benefit.
