【September 8, 2026 update】 None
Eligibility: the age of majority in your province or territory, and a Canadian resident. The official site states no minimum annual income.
Everyday Spending
1.5%: Eligible gas, grocery, and online purchases earn an extra 0.5% on top of the base 1% on the first $25,000 each year. Gas must be at an eligible gas station or certain large stores. Grocery must be a merchant whose primary business is selling food; grocery purchases inside pharmacies, retailers, and large stores do not receive the extra 0.5%. Travel, transportation, recurring payments, online subscriptions, automatic bill payments, and topping up an online digital wallet do not receive the extra 0.5%.
1%: All eligible purchases earn this rate, including spending in the categories above after the annual $25,000 cap. The account must be in good standing. Cash advances, balance transfers, Mastercard cheques, and interest and non-interest charges (including annual fees, foreign-currency fees, and insurance charges) do not earn cash back.
Benefits & Insurance
- Cashback request
Only the primary cardholder can request cash back in online or mobile banking. Each request must be at least $10 and a whole-dollar amount. Cash back can only credit the card balance; it cannot be paid out as cash, and it posts on the first or second statement after the request. Cash back does not replace that period’s minimum payment. If the account has no purchases or cash advances for 18 consecutive months, unused cash back expires 30 to 60 days after a notice if activity does not resume.
- Online transaction verification (Mastercard ID Check)
Mastercard ID Check verifies your identity on online purchases to help prevent fraud. Unauthorized transactions are covered by Mastercard Zero Liability, subject to Mastercard’s terms.
Shopping Insurance
- Purchase Protection and Extended Warranty
Eligible new movable property must be paid entirely by the cardholder with this card or with points earned on this card. Theft or accidental damage within 90 days of purchase is covered. A manufacturer’s warranty that is valid in Canada is automatically doubled for a maximum of one extra year. If the original warranty is longer than five years, you must first contact the insurer to register the purchase. Benefits do not exceed the purchase price charged to the account. Purchase protection and extended warranty together pay a maximum of $60,000 while the account is active, with no deductible. Gift cards, currency, tickets, phones and other mobile devices, used items, motor vehicles, items bought for business, normal wear, disappearance without reasonable evidence of theft, and flood are not covered. If another policy or the manufacturer’s warranty has already paid, the insurer coordinates payment under the certificate.
- Filing a Claim
Report theft or vandalism to police immediately and get a report. Call CanAssistance as soon as the event occurs, and ideally submit the claim form, proof of purchase, original warranty, and any other documents the insurer requires within 90 days. A late claim that prejudices the insurer may be denied. If the claim is accepted, the insurer repairs, replaces, refunds, or pays within 60 days of receiving a complete file.
