Japan Airlines (JAL) and Marriott Bonvoy launched a long-term partnership on July 14, 2026. Once you link your JAL Mileage Bank and Marriott Bonvoy accounts, eligible members can get a status match, a faster status challenge, and extra points.

Marriott members can get JAL FLY ON Points

Each Marriott Bonvoy tier receives a set number of JAL FLY ON Points (qualifying points toward JAL elite) every year:

Titanium and Ambassador members land JAL Crystal (oneworld Ruby) with those points, which is useful if you fly oneworld often.

Sapphire gets complimentary Silver Elite each year and can challenge for Gold Elite. JGC Premier gets complimentary Gold Elite each year. Diamond and Diamond Metal get complimentary Gold Elite each year, can challenge up to Platinum Elite, and can earn up to 15,000 Bonvoy points.

Stay-challenge requirements

If your tier uses a challenge, you need to complete the required paid Qualifying Nights within six months of linking the accounts.

Keep in mind:

  • Elite Night Credits from credit cards do not count toward this challenge.
  • Promotional Elite Night Credits also do not count.

Takeaway

This is one of the more attractive long-term airline–hotel partnerships in recent years.

If you already have Marriott Titanium or Ambassador, you can pick up JAL benefits with almost no extra cost. If you already fly JAL or oneworld a lot, it also becomes easier to reach Marriott Gold or Platinum.

Check your current tiers and your stay plans for the next six months before you link. If a Marriott or JAL upgrade is close, it may be worth waiting until after you upgrade. If you need the stay challenge, make sure you can finish it within six months of linking.
