Income requirement: the primary applicant needs personal annual income of at least $80,000, or household annual income of at least $150,000. Assets under management over $400,000 can also qualify. The website lists assets such as RRSPs, TFSAs, bank accounts, investments, vacation homes, and rental properties.
Everyday spending
3x: grocery purchases from January 1 to December 31 on the first $10,000, and restaurant purchases over the same period on the first $6,000. After each category hits its cap, that year’s remaining spend in the category earns 1x. Categories follow the merchant MCC.
2x: entertainment and alternative transportation. The website does not list an annual spend cap for those two categories. Travel purchases also earn 2x on the first $20,000 each year, then 1x for the rest of that year.
1x: other eligible purchases, plus grocery, restaurant, and travel spend after each category’s annual cap. Returns, cash advances, cheques, in-store Accord D financing, interest, foreign-currency purchases, electronic transfers, money orders, and casino transactions do not earn BONUSDOLLARS.

- Emergency health, trip, and baggage insurance (Emergency Health Care, Trip Cancellation or Modification and Baggage)
The card must be activated before you travel, the account cannot be more than 90 days past due, privileges cannot be suspended, and the annual fee must be paid. The cardholder and a spouse, children, and grandchildren travelling for the entire trip must live in Canada at least 6 months a year. Emergency health coverage applies only to trips outside the home province or territory, up to $5,000,000 per person per trip: 60 days at age 59 and under, 31 days at ages 60 to 64, and 15 days at ages 65 to 75. You also need to keep your provincial or territorial health insurance for the whole trip. If you go past the complimentary days without extending coverage, the entire trip is not covered. Cancellation or modification before departure is up to $2,500 per person per trip. Modification while travelling has no maximum, but the trip can last no more than 365 days and eligible costs such as airfare must be charged to this card. Baggage is up to $1,000 per person per trip, and delays of more than 6 hours are up to $500. Pre-existing conditions are excluded if they were unstable in the 90 days before departure when you are under 55, or in the 182 days before departure when you are 55 or older.
- Auto Rental Collision/Loss Damage Insurance
The rental can last up to 48 consecutive days. The cardholder must rent an eligible private passenger vehicle in their own name, charge the full rental to this card, and decline the rental company’s CDW or similar coverage. Damage or theft can be covered up to the vehicle’s actual value. If you choose or are required to buy the rental company’s CDW, coverage is limited to that deductible. Notify the insurer within 48 hours of the loss. Trucks, vans, vehicles with a pre-tax suggested retail price over $85,000, mechanical breakdown, and normal wear are not covered, and only one rental is covered at a time.
Purchase-related insurance
- Mobile Device Insurance
A new or eligible refurbished phone paid in full with this card, or financed on a contract whose down payment and all monthly payments are charged to this card, can be covered for loss, theft, accidental damage, or mechanical breakdown during the coverage period. The payout is the lower of repair or replacement cost, up to $1,500 after depreciation and the applicable deductible. There is a maximum of one claim every 12 consecutive months and two claims every 48 consecutive months. Accessories, batteries, and phones used for resale or professional/business purposes are not covered. Get insurer approval before a repair or replacement.
- Purchase Protection
New personal items bought worldwide must be paid in full with this card and/or BONUSDOLLARS, and must be lost, stolen, or damaged within 120 days of purchase, before you can claim the lower of repair or replacement cost. The cap is $10,000 per item and $50,000 lifetime per account, and no more than the amount actually charged. Mail-order items that never arrived or arrived damaged, perishables, motor vehicles and their parts/accessories, unexplained disappearance, and normal wear are not covered.
- Extended Warranty
Eligible new personal items must be paid in full with this card and/or BONUSDOLLARS, and a manufacturer warranty valid in Canada must cover the relevant parts or labour. The original warranty is automatically doubled, for up to two extra years. Repair or replacement is capped at $10,000 per item and $50,000 lifetime per account. Original warranties longer than five years, and motor vehicles and their parts/accessories, are not covered. Notify the insurer of purchase, mobile-device, and rental losses within 90 days, and submit complete written proof of loss within one year.
