Everyday spending

2%: restaurants, entertainment, and alternative transportation. Restaurant and pre-authorized-payment categories earn 2% on the first $3,600 of eligible spend each year, then 0.5% for the rest of that year.

0.5%: pre-authorized payments after that annual cap, plus other eligible purchases. Returns, cash advances, cheques, Accord D financing, interest, foreign-currency purchases, electronic transfers, money orders, and casino transactions do not earn. The merchant MCC determines the category.

  • 3-day travel coverage

Coverage is for a maximum of 3 days. Both the departure and return days count as full days, and a longer trip is not covered at all. The cardholder and eligible family members travelling for the entire trip must live in Canada at least six months a year; emergency health coverage also requires provincial health insurance. Emergency health care is up to $5,000,000 per person per trip (age 75 and under). Trip cancellation and modification are up to $500 and $1,000 respectively, and eligible costs must be charged to this card. Baggage is up to $500, and travel accident coverage is up to $10,000. The card must be activated and the account cannot be more than 90 days past due. Unstable pre-existing conditions are restricted, and claims must be filed within 90 days of the incident.

  • Mobile device, purchase protection, and extended warranty

A new phone paid in full with this card, or an eligible phone whose down payment and all monthly contract payments are charged to this card, can be covered up to $1,000 after depreciation and the deductible, with a maximum of one claim every 12 months. New personal items paid in full that are lost, stolen, or damaged within 90 days can be repaired or replaced, up to $10,000 per item and $50,000 lifetime per account. Cash, perishables, motor vehicles, normal wear, and business use are not covered. Eligible new items with an original warranty of five years or less can get up to one extra year. Get insurer approval before a repair or replacement.
