Everyday earning

5x: Eligible purchases charged directly with participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels, standalone Marriott Bonvoy retail stores, or Marriott Bonvoy online stores (including online Marriott Bonvoy gift cards) earn 5 Marriott Bonvoy® points per CAD 1. The property or shop must be owned or managed by Marriott International and its affiliates.

3x: Standalone gas stations in Canada, Canadian restaurants / quick-service restaurants / cafés / bars, and eligible air, water, rail and road travel services and bookings earn 3 Marriott Bonvoy® points per CAD 1. Local or commuter transportation and lodging are not in that travel category. The merchant’s primary business must be the matching category.

2x: Other eligible purchases earn 2 Marriott Bonvoy® points per CAD 1. A merchant not recognized in the categories above, a payment through a third-party payment account/service or mobile card reader, or an online store selling other merchants’ goods all earn 2x.

Funds advances, interest, balance transfers, Amex cheques, annual and other fees, travellers cheques and foreign-currency charges do not earn points. Refunds and credits reduce points.

Benefits and insurance

  • Annual Free Night Award

Starting in the second year, Cardmembers in good standing receive a Free Night Award about 8–10 weeks after the annual reset. It is valid for one year from the issue date and can be redeemed for a standard room (one or two occupants) at a participating Marriott Bonvoy hotel costing up to 35,000 points. The 35,000 points cover the room rate and applicable taxes, but not a resort fee. Both the booking and the stay must fall within that one-year validity period.

  • Marriott Bonvoy Elite Status and Elite Night Credits

The Basic Cardmember receives Silver Elite. After you link this Card to your own active Marriott Bonvoy account, you receive 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year. The maximum is still 15 nights per year even if you hold more than one Marriott Bonvoy consumer or small-business Card. The first deposit usually posts about eight weeks after approval; later years post on or before March 1. You can reach Gold Elite by charging CAD 30,000 in net purchases before the annual reset, or by combining 10 qualifying paid nights in the same calendar year with this Card’s 15 Elite Night Credits, subject to other programme terms.

  • Supplementary Cards

You can request up to 99 Supplementary Cards at CAD 50 each. Eligible Supplementary Card purchases earn Marriott Bonvoy points for the Basic Cardmember’s account. Supplementary Cardmembers must have reached the age of majority in their province or territory.

  • Employee Card Misuse Protection

If an employee leaves and you cancel their employee Card within two business days of termination, eligible unauthorized charges can be covered up to CAD 100,000 per Basic Cardmember. Scope, process and exclusions follow Amex’s then-current terms.

  • Plan It™

When the account is in good standing and an eligible purchase or balance is at least CAD 100, you can repay it in instalments with a fixed monthly fee disclosed when you set up the plan. That cost can be comparable to interest. The feature is not offered in Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island or Nunavut, and is subject to Amex eligibility and terms.

  • Travel Emergency Assistance

This is a 24/7 worldwide medical-assistance and legal-referral service, not insurance. You pay any fees charged by the service providers.

  • Amex Experiences™ and Amex Offers

You may be able to use selected Front Of The Line® Amex Presale Tickets™, Amex Reserved Tickets™ and offers in the Amex App / Online Services. Events, enrolment, eligible Cards, payment methods and deadlines follow the terms then in force.

  • Flight and Baggage Delay & Hotel Burglary Insurance

The full airfare must be charged to this Card, or redeemed with Marriott Bonvoy points as the certificate requires, with the required taxes charged to the Card. A missed connection, a flight delay of at least four hours, or denied boarding because of overbooking with no alternative within four hours of the original departure, may cover reasonable living expenses and sundries. If outbound checked baggage is delayed more than six hours after you arrive, you may be covered for essential clothing and sundries bought within four days of arrival. The combined flight- and baggage-delay limit is CAD 500 per occurrence. When accommodation is paid in full with this Card, personal property stolen in a hotel burglary during the stay is covered up to CAD 500 per occurrence.

  • Lost or Stolen Baggage Insurance

When the full airfare is charged to this Card, checked or carry-on baggage lost or damaged during covered air transportation is covered up to CAD 500 combined per occurrence for all insured persons; jewellery up to CAD 300, golf clubs and bag up to CAD 250. Electronics, cameras, cash and many other items are excluded.

  • Travel Accident Insurance

Charge the common-carrier fare (for example air, rail, ship or bus) to an American Express Card account before the accident. Eligible accidental death or specified dismemberment is covered up to CAD 500,000 per insured person; the loss must occur within 100 days of the accident. The Basic/Supplementary Cardmember, spouse and dependent children under 23 may qualify. Definitions and exclusions are in the certificate.

  • Car Rental Theft and Damage Insurance

Charge the entire rental to this Card, or pay with Marriott Bonvoy points and charge the required taxes to the Card as the certificate requires, and decline the rental company’s CDW/LDW. It applies to eligible cars, SUVs or minivans with an MSRP below CAD 85,000 excluding tax, for a consecutive rental of no more than 48 days. It can cover theft, loss, damage and eligible loss-of-use charges, with no deductible. It does not provide third-party liability coverage. You must report an accident to the insurer within 48 hours.

The current certificate for this Card does not include out-of-province/country emergency medical, trip cancellation, trip interruption or trip delay insurance.
