  • First use of the Brim Card at participating merchants: up to $500 in Brim points.

Eligibility: The application flow clearly requires Canadian residency and age of majority in the province of residence. Everyday earning

Open Rewards: Selected merchant partners may offer accelerated points per CAD 1 or a multiple of the base earn rate. Check each offer’s terms. The offer replaces, rather than stacks on top of, the ordinary base reward. The programme terms say Open Rewards points are uncapped.

0.5x: Net Purchases in Canadian dollars earn 1 Brim point per CAD 2. Returns and merchant credits reverse points. Cash advances, cash-like transactions, balance transfers, convenience cheques, interest, fees and account payments are not eligible purchases.

Benefits and insurance

  • Installment Pay

The website currently lists 12-, 16-, 20- or 24-month instalments for purchases over CAD 500. The page shows a one-time instalment fee plus a monthly processing fee of CAD 4.75 per CAD 1,000 (0.475%); the actual offer, eligibility and fees depend on the terms shown when you apply.

  • Additional Cardmembers and Family Card

The comparison page lists a CAD 0 fee for Additional Cards. The primary Cardmember can manage Additional Cards and spending limits in the Portal or App. Points from all Additional Card spending accrue to the primary account.

  • Real-time notifications and spend monitoring

The website lists a free mobile App, real-time transaction notifications, an interactive budgeting tool and spending tracking. Spending can be viewed and managed in the Portal or App.

Travel insurance

Official insurance certificate 🔗

  • Common Carrier Insurance

Accidental death or dismemberment while boarding, travelling on or leaving a licensed common carrier is covered up to CAD 100,000 per insured person and CAD 300,000 for all insured persons combined for the same accident. Charge the full fare and applicable taxes to the Card, or use rewards with the taxes and fees charged to the Card. The account must be in good standing, and the loss must occur within one year of the accident. This coverage is unavailable to Quebec residents.

Notify Allianz as soon as possible after an accident. The certificate generally requires notice within 30 days and written proof of loss within 90 days, with both deadlines no later than one year after the accident.

Purchase insurance

  • Purchase Security Insurance

A new item is covered for theft or damage during the first 90 days after purchase when a Canadian resident charges the full price to the Card, or uses rewards with taxes and fees charged to the Card. The limit is CAD 1,000 per account per 12 consecutive months, with a CAD 60,000 lifetime maximum shared with extended warranty coverage. Loss, items while held by a third party for mailing or transportation, cash, gift cards, used items, wear and tear and business-use property are excluded.

  • Extended Warranty Insurance

An eligible item’s original manufacturer’s warranty can be doubled for up to one additional year, and the original warranty must be valid in Canada. The limit is CAD 25,000 per account per 12 consecutive months, with a CAD 60,000 lifetime maximum shared with Purchase Security. If the original warranty lasts more than five years, register within one year of purchase. Lifetime warranties and coverage after a manufacturer goes out of business are excluded.

  • Mobile Device Insurance

For a lost, stolen or accidentally damaged phone, the limit per claim is the lowest of the depreciated value, repair or replacement cost, and CAD 500, less a 10% deductible. There is at most one claim per account in 12 consecutive months and two in 48 months. For a full-price purchase, the Card must pay for the device and it must be activated with a Canadian wireless provider; coverage begins on the 91st day after purchase and lasts up to two years. For an instalment purchase, a Canadian wireless provider must provide the contract and every monthly wireless bill during the contract must be charged to the Card. Obtain Allianz approval before repairing damage. After loss or theft, notify the wireless provider to suspend service within 48 hours, and report theft to the police within seven days.

  • A foreign transaction fee and balance-transfer fee were added; both had previously been 0% and are now 1.5%.
