Uber One is Uber’s paid membership in Canada, at $9.99 a month. If you have the right credit card or brokerage account, you can cover it at no cash cost. This guide walks through the official prices, member perks, the free ways to get it, and a few common mix-ups.

The student rate requires SheerID identity verification (name, date of birth, school email, and so on) plus proof that you are currently enrolled.

Eligible new members may also see a free-trial offer in the app. Whether you get one, and how long it lasts, depends entirely on your account. Do not assume everyone has it.

What Uber One includes

Delivery / errands (Uber Eats):

  • Restaurant orders of $15 or more: free delivery + 5% off
  • Grocery and non-restaurant stores of $40 or more: free delivery (the 5% discount does not apply to groceries)
  • Order later than the “latest arrival” time shown in the app: $5 Uber Cash (Uber One Promise)

Rides:

  • Eligible trips earn 5% Uber One credits, which you can put toward the next purchase. They last 60 days.
  • Priority matching with highly rated drivers

Other:

  • Member-only promotions and sale items, plus priority support
  • Cancel anytime, no fee
  • Uber says members who take at least one trip or order save $38 a month on average

Does Uber membership have “tiers”?

The rider side has no tier system now. It is simple—

  1. Regular user: free, no perks
  2. Uber One: $9.99/month
  3. Uber One for Students: $4.99/month

There used to be a free Uber Rewards program (Blue / Gold / Platinum / Diamond, earned by collecting points). It shut down in November 2022 and was replaced by Uber One. “Uber tier guides” you still find online are almost always outdated.

As a side note: Blue/Gold/Platinum/Diamond is now the driver-side Uber Pro program. It has nothing to do with riders. The memberships TD and Wealthsimple give you are the same as the paid version. They are not a separate tier.

How to get Uber One at no cash cost

Method 1: TD credit cards (the most realistic $0 path)

TD has an official partnership with Uber. If you hold one of the cards below, you can claim 3 or 6 months of Uber One for free:

  • TD Platinum Travel Visa
  • TD Cash Back Visa

Key points:

  • Primary and additional cardholders may both be eligible
  • Registration window runs through 2029-04-15 11:59 PM ET
  • Add the eligible TD card to Uber Wallet, then claim the pop-up offer in the Uber or Uber Eats app
  • A new card’s offer can take up to 10 days to appear; a product change can take up to 40 days
  • Some 6-month cards get 20% off the monthly fee after the free period (the discount window runs no later than 2029-10-15)
  • When the free period ends it auto-renews, so cancel ahead of time
  • Each card can only be used by the first Uber account that redeems it; each account can claim it once

Method 2: Wealthsimple milestone rewards (12 months free)

Wealthsimple’s milestone rewards include an option for 12 months of Uber One for free. If you already pay for membership, you can extend it by 12 months.

  • How to activate: Wealthsimple app → Profile → Uber One reward → unique link
  • The membership perks are limited to use in Canada
  • Milestones start at $200,000 in total assets, then every extra $100,000. This only makes sense if you already sit at that threshold. Do not move money in just for the membership.

Method 3: Student pricing

$4.99/month plus 4 weeks free on the first signup. Worth it if you are a current student.

Method 4: In-app free trial

Open the Uber app and see whether your account has a personal trial offer.

Suggested order: eligible TD card → claim 3 or 6 months free first; already at a Wealthsimple milestone → claim 12 months; student → student price; none of the above → check the in-app trial.

Shops groceries: what are the delivery fee and service fee? Which one does Uber One cut?

When you buy groceries in the Shops tab of the Uber app, each order has two charges:

  • Delivery fee: a flat-looking fee that moves with the merchant, distance, and time of day. It goes to the courier.
  • Service fee: a platform fee based on the order amount. On grocery in B.C. it can be as high as 20% of the receipt ($2–$20 cap). Other provinces are usually 15%.

What Uber One saves on groceries:

  • âś… Delivery fee goes to $0 (Uber One–badged stores, $40 minimum)
  • âś… Service fee is discounted (not waived; the actual discount shows at checkout)
  • ❌ The 5% off does not apply to groceries, only restaurant orders

Example: a $60 grocery order in Vancouver without membership might be about $4–$5 delivery plus $12 service fee, $16+ in fees alone. With Uber One, delivery is $0 and the service fee is discounted on top of that.
