Travel Insurance

Official insurance certificate🔗

  • Out-of-Province/Country Emergency Medical Insurance

Available to Canadian permanent residents with valid government health coverage: the first 31 consecutive days of each trip for people under 65, or the first 7 days for those 65 and older. Emergency medical expenses are generally unlimited after government and other insurance, with up to $2,000 for accidental dental treatment and $200 for emergency dental-pain relief. Call the assistance service before receiving emergency treatment when possible; otherwise, you are responsible for 20% of covered expenses, up to $25,000. Unstable pre-existing conditions in the 90 days before departure (under 75) or 180 days (75+) are excluded, as are non-emergency treatment and some events related to travel advisories. Report a claim within 30 days and submit documents within 90 days, or within one year when that is not reasonably possible.

  • Travel Accident Insurance

Pay the full common-carrier fare with the card and/or Avion points; if Avion points cover only part of the fare, charge the balance to the card. It covers accidental bodily injury while travelling as a common-carrier passenger, boarding or leaving it, or in the related terminal, up to $500,000 for death or specific losses. Sickness, non-passenger travel, self-inflicted injury, war/terrorism, and criminal acts are excluded. Report a claim within 30 days and submit documents within 90 days, or within one year when that is not reasonably possible.

  • Auto Rental Collision/Loss Damage Waiver Insurance

Reserve with the card, present it at the rental desk, pay the full rental cost including taxes and fees with the card and/or Avion points, and decline the rental agency’s CDW. If Avion points cover only part of the rental, charge the balance to the card. Coverage is limited to one vehicle for up to 48 consecutive days, with an MSRP of no more than $65,000. It can cover the vehicle’s actual cash value, valid towing, storage, loss-of-use charges, and up to $50 in administration fees. It does not include third-party liability or personal-injury coverage, and excludes pick-up trucks, cargo vans, some exotic/antique cars, peer-to-peer rentals, commercial use, impaired driving, and more. Report loss or damage within 48 hours; submit available documents within 45 days and complete documentation within 90 days of the loss.

  • Delayed Baggage Insurance

Pay the full airline fare with the card and/or Avion points and check your baggage; if Avion points cover only part of the fare, charge the balance to the card. When checked baggage is lost or delayed for four hours after arrival, it covers essential clothing and toiletries up to $500 per covered person and $2,500 total per occurrence. Coverage ends when the baggage is returned, four days after arrival, or when you reach the final destination of your return trip. Obtain an airline report and keep your receipts; report a claim within 30 days and submit documents within 90 days, or within one year when that is not reasonably possible.

  • Flight Delay Insurance

Pay the full airline fare with the card and/or Avion points and check in with the airline; if Avion points cover only part of the fare, charge the balance to the card. After a four-hour missed connection, flight delay, or denied boarding due to overbooking—when the airline does not provide alternative transport—it covers reasonable and necessary accommodation, meals, emergency purchases, phone, internet, and taxi expenses up to $250 per person per day and $500 total per occurrence. Losses at the final return-trip destination, insufficient connection time, and immigration-denied boarding are excluded. Report a claim within 30 days and submit documents within 90 days, or within one year when that is not reasonably possible.

  • Hotel/Motel Burglary Insurance

Pay the hotel, motel, or cruise-cabin charge in full with the card and/or Avion points; if Avion points cover only part, charge the balance to the card. Between check-in and check-out, it covers loss of or damage to personal property caused by burglary with visible signs of forcible entry, up to $2,500 total for all covered people per occurrence, as excess coverage. Cash, travellers cheques, property not reasonably safeguarded, and burglary at rental property are excluded. Submit police and hotel/cruise reports; report a claim within 30 days and submit documents within 90 days, or within one year when that is not reasonably possible.

Shopping Insurance

  • Purchase Security Insurance

Personal items and family gifts paid in full with the card and/or Avion points are covered against loss or accidental physical damage for 90 days from purchase; if Avion points cover only part, charge the balance to the card. Coverage is up to $50,000 or the Avion-points equivalent per account per calendar year and is excess insurance, so other insurance must be exhausted first. Mysterious disappearance, consumables, cash/gift cards, business property, natural disasters, and normal wear are excluded. Report a claim within 30 days and submit documents within 90 days, or within one year when that is not reasonably possible.

  • Extended Warranty Insurance

For an item paid with the card and/or Avion points that has an original manufacturer warranty valid in Canada, coverage doubles the original written warranty by up to one additional year, with a combined original and extended warranty of no more than five years. Lifetime warranties, business items, and warranties not valid in Canada are excluded. Notify the insurer and obtain approval for the repair and repair facility before having work done. Report a claim within 30 days and submit documents within 90 days, or within one year when that is not reasonably possible.
