Everyday Spending
3x: Groceries, dining, takeout, transit, gas, EV charging, streaming, digital games, and subscriptions. Eligible Visa MCCs include 5411, 5812–5814, 5541, 5542, 4121, 4111, 5552, 5815–5818, and 4899. Visa determines the merchant category, and some apparently eligible merchants may not qualify.
1x: Other eligible purchases, including pre-authorized bill payments. Cash advances, balance transfers, cash-equivalent transactions, non-merchant pre-authorized payments, interest, fees, returns, and adjustments do not earn points.

- Student annual-fee rebate
Full-time post-secondary students of any age and non-students aged 24 or under may qualify for an annual rebate of the $48 primary-card fee when they hold or co-hold an RBC Advantage Banking Account for Students. One rebate is available per eligible student account.
- Avion Rewards access
Access points, cash back, and savings offers at more than 2,000 brands, with redemptions for merchandise, gift cards, bills, investments, and charitable donations.
- Petro-Canada partnership
Link an eligible RBC card to save 3¢ per litre and earn 20% more Petro-Points.
- Rexall Be Well points
Link the card to Be Well and earn 50 Be Well points per $1 at eligible Rexall purchases. Taxes, tobacco, alcohol, and gift cards are excluded.
- DoorDash DashPass
Activate the offer after adding the card to DoorDash to receive three months of DashPass and $0 delivery fees on eligible $15-plus restaurant orders.
Purchase Insurance
- Mobile Device Insurance
Eligible mobile devices purchased with the card may be covered for up to two years and up to $1,000 for loss, theft, accidental damage, or mechanical failure.
- Purchase Security and Extended Warranty Insurance
Eligible purchases are covered for loss, theft, or damage for 90 days. The original Canadian warranty can be extended by up to one year, for a maximum combined period of five years.
Bottom Line
The RBC ION+ Visa is an accessible entry-level or mid-tier card for earning Avion points on common spending such as dining and gas. Its student and under-24 annual-fee rebate makes it particularly useful for younger cardholders.
