Shopping Insurance
- Purchase Protection and Extended Warranty
Eligible new movable property must be paid entirely by the cardholder with this card or with points earned on this card. Theft or accidental damage within 90 days of purchase is covered. A manufacturer’s warranty that is valid in Canada is automatically doubled for a maximum of one extra year. If the original warranty is longer than five years, you must first contact the insurer to register the purchase. Benefits do not exceed the purchase price charged to the account. Purchase protection and extended warranty together pay a maximum of $60,000 while the account is active, with no deductible. Gift cards, currency, tickets, phones and other mobile devices, used items, motor vehicles, items bought for business, normal wear, disappearance without reasonable evidence of theft, and flood are not covered. If another policy or the manufacturer’s warranty has already paid, the insurer coordinates payment under the certificate.
- Filing a Claim
Report theft or vandalism to police immediately and get a report. Call CanAssistance as soon as the event occurs, and ideally submit the claim form, proof of purchase, original warranty, and any other documents the insurer requires within 90 days. A late claim that prejudices the insurer may be denied. If the claim is accepted, the insurer repairs, replaces, refunds, or pays within 60 days of receiving a complete file.
