【October 4, 2026 update】 Based on information from several sources, after the major Chase IHG cobrand refresh announced two days earlier, this card will also change:
- The annual fee goes from $49 to $99, starting on each cardmember’s 2027 renewal date. The terms take effect on December 2, 2026, but a renewal before the end of 2026 is still $49 this year. The $99 fee starts the following year.
- The free-night cap rises from 40,000 to 50,000 points. There is no clear information yet on whether the night can still be topped off with points.
- Platinum status and the 10% points rebate stay.
- If you do not want to pay the annual fee next year, you can product-change the card or close it. The annual fee is refunded if you close within 30 days.
🤔💡 I will wait for more benefit details before deciding whether to keep this card.
Highlights
- Chase has stopped accepting new applications for this legacy card, but existing cardholders can continue to keep its ongoing benefits.
- Earn 5x IHG One Rewards points at participating IHG One Rewards hotels. Together with separate IHG member and Platinum Elite earnings, Chase says stays can earn up to 21x total points.
- Receive one 40,000-point-cap Anniversary Free Night on every account anniversary, with the option to top up with points from your IHG account for a higher-priced redemption.
- Linked IHG One Rewards accounts receive Platinum Elite Status, a 10% rebate on eligible point redemptions, and no foreign transaction fees.
Who it suits: This discontinued legacy card suits an existing cardholder who stays at IHG hotels and can use the anniversary free night and Platinum Elite status. The current annual fee is $49, and the free night, points rebate, and DashPass are the main sources of value; keeping it is less compelling if you rarely stay at IHG or do not want to absorb the announced future fee change.
Issuer: Chase
Network: Mastercard
Type: Credit card
Annual fee: $49
Foreign transaction fee: None
Rewards are earned as IHG One Rewards points. Chase automatically transfers the points earned during each billing cycle to the linked IHG One Rewards account after that cycle ends.
Welcome offer
This IHG One Rewards Select Credit Card no longer accepts applications from new cardmembers. It is discontinued.
Everyday spending
5x: Eligible purchases at hotels participating in IHG One Rewards. This is the card’s own earn rate; IHG One Rewards member stay earnings and the Platinum Elite bonus are calculated separately under the IHG programme. Chase’s advertised up-to-21x total combines all three, rather than representing the card’s standalone earning rate.
2x: Purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery services. Chase uses Visa/Mastercard merchant-category coding; purchases submitted through third-party payment accounts or digital wallets may not receive the bonus if they are not processed in the qualifying category.
1x: All other eligible purchases. Balance transfers, cash advances, travellers cheques, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers, cryptocurrency and other cash-like transactions, gambling, person-to-person transfers, account funding, cheques, interest, unauthorised or fraudulent charges, and fees do not earn points.
Benefits & insurance
- Automatic Platinum Elite Status (Platinum Elite Status)
Chase’s current legacy-IHG-card page lists Platinum Elite Status as a benefit of this card. The specific privileges, eligibility, and any future changes to status are governed by IHG One Rewards programme terms.
- Anniversary Free Night (Anniversary Free Night)
Each account anniversary earns one standard-room Anniversary Free Night with a redemption cap of 40,000 IHG One Rewards points. You may add points from your IHG account to book a higher-priced night. It must be redeemed and the stay completed within 12 months of issue, and covers a standard room and applicable taxes only; parking, mandatory resort fees, and other incidentals remain your responsibility. Availability and each hotel’s cancellation policy apply. The night cannot be transferred, extended, exchanged for cash, or recredited as points.
- 10% points rebate on redemptions (Bonus points for redemptions)
Eligible IHG One Rewards point redemptions receive a 10% points rebate, capped at 100,000 rebated points per calendar year. Reward Night stays generally receive the rebate four to six weeks after the stay, while other redemptions generally take four to six weeks from redemption. The Anniversary Free Night is excluded. You must be a U.S. IHG One Rewards Select cardholder and keep the linked IHG account in good standing.
- Twelve complimentary months of DashPass (Complimentary DashPass)
First activation with this card from February 1, 2025 through December 31, 2027 provides 12 complimentary months of DashPass across DoorDash and Caviar. You must use a U.S. address, make the card the default payment method in DoorDash or Caviar, and activate it; eligible orders must still be paid with the card. After the complimentary period, membership automatically renews at the then-current monthly rate unless you cancel.
- DoorDash non-restaurant order discount (Earn Up to $10 Off Monthly or Quarterly on DoorDash Non-Restaurant Orders)
Cardholders who first activate DashPass from September 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027 receive a $10 discount on one qualifying DoorDash non-restaurant order in each calendar month while DashPass remains active. If first activated from February 1, 2025 through August 31, 2026, the benefit is one order per calendar quarter instead. The discount applies only to the order subtotal, requires payment with the enrolled card, does not roll over, excludes gift cards, and is available only in the United States.
- Points from authorised-user spending (Earn points faster with Authorized Users)
Chase’s Rewards Program Agreement states that eligible purchases made by the primary cardmember or an authorised user earn points. The primary cardmember remains responsible for the account balance and all spending by authorised users.
- Mastercard Concierge (MasterCard Concierge)
Chase lists Mastercard Concierge as a card service. The cardmember is responsible for the cost of any goods or services arranged through the concierge.
- Roadside Assistance (Roadside Assistance)
This is a 24-hour, no-enrolment, pay-per-use dispatch service in the United States and Canada, rather than complimentary roadside-assistance insurance. The pre-negotiated per-service fee includes up to five miles of standard towing; it can also arrange tyre changes, battery jump-starts, lockout service, delivery of up to five gallons of fuel (excluding fuel cost), and standard winching within 100 feet of a paved road or highway. Extra mileage, services beyond the benefit limit, and certain circumstances incur additional charges.
Travel insurance
- Auto Rental Coverage (Auto Rental Coverage)
Use the card or redeemable rewards to pay for the entire rental and decline the rental agency’s CDW/LDW to receive worldwide theft and collision coverage for an eligible rental of up to 31 consecutive days, with a maximum benefit of $60,000. It covers substantiated loss-of-use charges, administrative fees, and reasonable towing after a covered loss. Coverage is secondary in the United States and primary where available outside the United States. It does not cover injury, third-party property damage, personal liability, personal belongings, exotic vehicles, or vehicles with an MSRP above $125,000, among other exclusions. Report an incident or theft as soon as possible and no later than 100 days; submit requested documents within 365 days.
- Baggage Delay Insurance (Baggage Delay Insurance)
After paying all or part of a common-carrier fare with the card or redeemable rewards, a covered traveller whose checked baggage is delayed or misdirected by the carrier for more than six hours can be reimbursed for essential items, up to $100 per day for a maximum of three days. Report the delay to the carrier before leaving the airport or station. This is secondary coverage and excludes, among other items, jewellery, watches, cameras, and other electronic equipment. File the claim within 20 days of the delay and submit documents within 90 days.
- Lost Luggage Reimbursement (Lost Luggage Reimbursement)
After paying all or part of a common-carrier fare with the card or redeemable rewards, this benefit reimburses the difference between actual cash value and the carrier’s payment for lost, damaged, or stolen checked baggage, carry-on baggage, or personal property during carriage. The maximum is $3,000 per covered traveller per trip, including $500 sublimits for jewellery and watches, and for cameras and other electronic equipment. New York residents have separate limits of $2,000 per bag and $10,000 for all covered travellers per trip. Report the loss under the carrier’s required timeline, then file within 20 days and submit documents within 90 days.
- Travel Accident Insurance (Travel Accident Insurance)
After paying all or part of a common-carrier fare with the card or redeemable rewards, a covered traveller can receive up to $500,000 per person under Common Carrier Travel Accident coverage, or up to $100,000 per person under Twenty-Four Hour Travel Accident coverage, for accidental death or covered loss of limb, sight, speech, or hearing. The twenty-four-hour coverage generally applies during the first 30 days of a trip. Payment percentages vary by loss, and multiple coverages or losses pay only the highest applicable amount. Illness, pregnancy, illegal acts, pilot or crew duties, and war are among the exclusions. File within 20 days of the accident or loss and submit documents within 90 days.
- Travel and Emergency Assistance (Travel and Emergency Assistance)
When travelling away from home, you can access 24-hour referrals and coordination for medical, legal, emergency transportation, ticket replacement, baggage location, translation, prescriptions, document delivery, and pre-trip information. The traveller pays for all actual medical, legal, transportation, cash-advance, goods, and other services. This is an assistance service, not insurance, and it may be unavailable where there is a U.S. State Department travel warning, OFAC sanctions, or inadequate local infrastructure.
- Trip Cancellation Insurance (Trip Cancellation Insurance)
After paying all or part of a trip with the card or redeemable rewards, covered cancellation of a trip lasting no more than 60 days may be reimbursed for prepaid, non-refundable travel costs. The limit is the lowest of $5,000 per covered traveller, $10,000 for all covered travellers on one trip, $20,000 per account in each 12-month period, or the actual amount charged. Covered reasons include documented illness or injury, certain severe weather, named-storm warnings, jury duty, fire or flood damage to a home, quarantine, and certain strikes. Pre-existing conditions, a simple change of plans, travel-supplier insolvency, border closures or supplier changes due to an epidemic or pandemic, war, and a cancellation for a reason not listed are excluded. This is secondary coverage: notify the travel supplier immediately, file within 20 days, and submit documents within 90 days.
- Trip Interruption Insurance (Trip Interruption Insurance)
After paying all or part of a trip with the card or redeemable rewards, covered interruption of a trip lasting no more than 60 days may be reimbursed for prepaid, non-refundable travel costs. The limit is the lowest of $5,000 per covered traveller, $10,000 for all covered travellers on one trip, $20,000 per account in each 12-month period, or the actual amount charged. The covered reasons, secondary-coverage rules, and requirements to notify the travel supplier immediately, file within 20 days, and submit documents within 90 days are the same as above.
Shopping insurance
- Extended Warranty Protection (Extended Warranty Protection)
An eligible item bought with the card or redeemable rewards and carrying a valid original U.S. manufacturer repair warranty receives one additional year of coverage. It does not apply when the original manufacturer warranty combined with a store warranty or purchased service contract exceeds three years, and total coverage cannot exceed four years from purchase. The benefit is limited to the lowest of repair cost, like-for-like replacement cost, the amount paid with the card or rewards, or $10,000 per item, with a $50,000 account maximum. Vehicles, software, medical equipment, used goods, and goods for resale, professional, or commercial use are excluded. Report product failure within 90 days and submit documents within 120 days.
- Purchase Protection (Purchase Protection)
Eligible items bought with the card or redeemable rewards are protected against theft, damage, or involuntary and accidental parting for 120 days from purchase, or 90 days for New York residents. The limit is $500 per item and $50,000 per account, and coverage is secondary to other insurance. Exclusions include animals and plants, antiques, vehicles, software, business-use items, unexplained disappearance, items in a carrier’s care, cash, tickets, consumables, and used goods. If a delivery-location theft occurs, you must first seek a claim from the carrier or retailer. File within 90 days and submit documents within 120 days.
