Everyday Spending
4%: Eligible purchases at independent gas stations and independent grocery stores in Canada. The 4% grocery rate applies to the first $30,000 spent in that category each card year, for a maximum of $1,200 in cash back. After the cap, eligible purchases earn 2%. Large supermarkets, warehouse clubs, liquor retailers, and general retailers whose primary business is not gas or groceries may not qualify for the category.
2%: Other eligible purchases, with no overall cap. Returns, credits, interest, annual fees, other fees, and cash-equivalent transactions are not eligible purchases.

- Mobile Device Insurance
When you charge the full purchase price of an eligible mobile device to the card, or pay for it through an instalment plan, you may be covered worldwide for theft, loss, or accidental damage, up to $1,000 per insured person. Coverage begins on the date of the first transaction related to the purchase or on the 91st day after purchase, to avoid overlapping with the 90-day Purchase Protection period, and lasts for up to two years from the purchase date.
- Plan It
Eligible purchases can be split into fixed monthly payments for a monthly instalment fee disclosed when the plan is created. The account must be in good standing and meet the minimum purchase or statement-balance requirements. The website says this feature is not currently available in Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Nunavut.
Travel Insurance
- Out-of-province / out-of-country emergency medical insurance
For insured travellers under age 65, eligible emergency medical expenses are covered up to $5,000,000 for the first 15 consecutive days of a covered trip outside their Canadian province or territory of residence.
- Flight Delay Insurance
When a flight is delayed or boarding is denied for at least four hours, no alternate transportation is provided, and the airfare is charged to the card, necessary and reasonable accommodation, meal, and essential-item expenses are covered up to $500. This limit is shared with Baggage Delay Insurance.
- Baggage Delay Insurance
When checked baggage is delayed by at least six hours and the airfare is charged to the card, necessary clothing and essential items purchased within four days of arriving at the destination are covered up to $500. This limit is shared with Flight Delay Insurance.
- Hotel Burglary Insurance
When the accommodation cost is charged to the card, loss of most personal items other than cash after a break-in at the accommodation is covered up to $500.
- Lost or Stolen Baggage Insurance
When checked baggage, carry-on baggage, or personal items are lost or damaged in transit and the airfare is charged to the card, coverage is up to $500 per trip for all insured people combined.
- $100,000 Travel Accident Insurance
Charge the full fare for a flight, train, ship, bus, or other common carrier to the card to receive up to $100,000 in accidental death and dismemberment coverage.
- Car Rental Theft and Damage Insurance
When the full rental cost is charged to the card, the rental period is no more than 48 days, and the vehicle’s MSRP is no more than $85,000, the rental vehicle may be covered for theft, loss, or damage. You must decline the rental company’s CDW, LDW, or similar coverage.
Purchase Insurance
- Buyer’s Assurance Protection Plan
Charge the full purchase price of an eligible new item to the card to extend the manufacturer’s original warranty by up to one year.
- Purchase Protection Plan
Eligible items charged to the card are covered for accidental physical damage or theft for 90 days from the purchase date, up to $1,000 per incident. This limit applies to all insured items involved in the same incident combined.
