The hotel-promo roundup on the blog homepage often includes Wyndham buy-points offers. A recent one was a 100% bonus on purchased Wyndham points, which works out to only 0.65 cpp USD.

That is a very low cost. Wyndham itself called it the biggest bonus they have ever run.

Is it worth it?

When you judge a points purchase, the main comparison is the cash cost of buying the points needed for an award night versus the cash rate for the same stay. Wyndham is a more budget-minded group, so we look at the cheapest hotels: not the stay experience, just a place to sleep. That is different from the earlier Hilton buy-points write-up, which focused on high-end brands.

Wyndham award nights are simple: three buckets, at 7,500 / 15,000 / 30,000 points. 7,500 points bought in this promo cost US$48.75, or about RMB 350. If the cash rate is well above US$50 / RMB 350, buying the points is worthwhile.

Wyndham has a large number of 7,500-point hotels in China:

If you like road trips, Super 8 and Days Inn properties along the way are even more common, and many of those book at 7,500 points too.

The everyday rate with no promo is 5:1. There was a 5:2 bonus not long ago. If you bought Wyndham points at 0.65 cpp and transferred during that bonus, United miles would cost 1.625 cpp USD.

Not outstanding, but cheaper than buying United miles outright.
