Everyday spending

2x: Spending that Mastercard codes correctly as a gas station (MCC 5541, 5542), office-supply store (MCC 5111, 5943), or cellphone/internet bill (MCC 4812, 4814, 4816) earns 2 BMO Rewards points per $1. The first $50,000 combined each year across those three categories earns the extra 1 point. After the cap, those purchases earn 1x. A merchant that sells similar goods does not earn the bonus if its classification does not match.

1x: Other eligible purchases earn 1 BMO Rewards point per $1. Points are calculated on purchases less refunds and adjustments, then rounded down. Cash advances, foreign-currency and traveller’s-cheque purchases, cash-like transactions, interest, fees, and account adjustments do not earn points. Points do not expire while the account stays open and in good standing. After the account closes, you have 90 days to redeem, or to reinstate/open an account and link the original points account; otherwise remaining points expire.

Benefits and insurance

  • Employee cards and account management

You can add up to 22 employee cards at $50 each per year. BMO’s online and mobile banking can show transactions and account details, manage employee cards, and lock or unlock cards. Employee-card spending also helps the business earn BMO Rewards points.

  • BMO Business Credit Card Waiver of Liability Program

BMO says the program can protect the business against employee-card misuse. Scope, limits, exclusions, and claim eligibility follow the Program Description that comes with the new card. This is not the same as purchase insurance.

  • Zero Liability

BMO says Zero Liability can apply to most unauthorized transactions. The business still needs to protect the cards, PINs, and account details, and call BMO within 24 hours after knowing or suspecting a loss, theft, or misuse. If the business account agreement’s conditions are not met, the business may be responsible.

  • Mastercard Easy Savings™

Spending with this Card at eligible merchants can automatically receive a 1%–25% statement rebate. Participating merchants, eligible spend, and terms change. The rebate appears on the monthly statement under the related purchase.

  • Instacart+ and monthly Instacart credit

The primary cardholder must enrol by October 31, 2027 to receive 3 months of complimentary Instacart+. If you choose auto-renewal at first enrolment, the first-year fee is $79, then the then-current standard annual fee. While you have active Instacart+, you can complete one non-alcohol Instacart.ca order of $50 or more each month with an eligible Canadian BMO credit card and receive one $5 credit. The credit is valid that month and does not carry over. It does not include taxes, service fees, or other charges.

  • Avis / Budget car-rental discounts

Prepaid Avis or Budget rentals booked with this Card can be up to 35% off the base rate. Location, vehicle, availability, and rental-company terms still apply, and the discount does not include taxes, surcharges, or optional coverage. BMO does not list rental collision-damage insurance for this card. Do not treat the discount as insurance.

  • BMO PaySmart instalment plan

Eligible purchases can be converted into a monthly payment plan. BMO shows the applicable cost, term, and other terms when you set up the plan. This is not a free benefit that comes automatically with the card.

Purchase insurance

Official insurance certificate 🔗

  • Purchase Protection

The full purchase price must be charged to this Card account while it is in good standing. Business-use items and gifts can both qualify. Items redeemed with Mastercard reward points may also be covered. Most eligible goods are covered worldwide for theft or damage for 90 days from the purchase date. The insurer may repair, replace, or reimburse the purchase price. Purchase protection and extended warranty share a lifetime maximum of $60,000 per account, and this is supplementary coverage after other insurance, compensation, or warranties. Cash and tickets, animals, consumables/perishables, undelivered online purchases, used or refurbished goods, motor vehicles, unexplained disappearance, and items left behind are not covered. Contact the Operations Centre immediately after you learn of a loss, then give written notice within 30 days and proof of claim within 90 days. If you cannot meet those timelines, submit the materials as soon as you can, and no later than one year after the incident.

  • Extended Warranty

The full purchase price must also be charged to this Card account, and the original manufacturer’s warranty must be valid in Canada. Coverage can extend that warranty by up to one extra year and pays the lower of repair or replacement cost under the original warranty terms. If the original warranty is longer than five years, you must register with the Operations Centre within one year of purchase. Used or refurbished goods, vehicles, and lifetime-warranty items are not covered. This benefit shares the $60,000 lifetime account maximum with purchase protection and is supplementary to other coverage. The claim timelines are the same: contact immediately, written notice within 30 days, proof within 90 days, and no later than one year after the incident if you cannot file on time.
