Without an eligible Prime membership, eligible foreign-currency spend other than Amazon/Whole Foods also earns 1 Point per $1.

Benefits & Insurance

  • MBNA Payment Plan

An eligible purchase of $100 or more can be paid over 6, 12, or 18 months. Eligibility and fees are set separately by MBNA.

  • Save with Avis Rent A Car and Budget Rent A Car

At participating locations in Canada and the United States, eligible rentals get at least 10% off the base rate; other participating international locations get at least 5%. Book Avis with AWD #C078405 and Budget with BCD #A331704, and charge the full rental to this card. Taxes, surcharges, and other items that are not base rate are not part of the discount promise.

  • Trip Assistance and Legal Assistance

These can help replace lost documents/tickets, handle lost baggage, provide pre-trip information, and arrange legal assistance. They are assistance services, not insurance. You do not have to charge travel to this card to use them, but amounts the administrator actually advances or arranges are billed to the credit-card account. Legal assistance, bail, or legal-fee arrangements are up to $5,000. Emergency cash transfers are up to $5,000. Both are limited by available credit.

  • Mastercard Zero Liability

When the conditions apply, you are not responsible for unauthorized in-store, phone, or online transactions on a Canadian-issued Mastercard. Scope and conditions follow Mastercard and the account agreement.

Official certificate of insurance 🔗

On this product page, MBNA lists separate coverage documents for the Amazon.ca Rewards Platinum Mastercard and the Amazon.ca Rewards World Mastercard. The rental-car, common-carrier, and unexpected-return-home benefits below appear in both current Guides. The card you are actually approved for is what applies. The link above is the World certificate.

  • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

If the primary cardholder signs a non-renewable rental of 31 days or less and charges the full rental to this card, it covers rental damage, theft, valid loss of use, and reasonable towing. Decline the rental company’s CDW/LDW when the law allows. The lifetime aggregate is $65,000 per account and does not include third-party injury or property liability. Trucks, RVs, off-road vehicles, motorcycles, luxury vehicles valued at $65,000 or more, antiques, leased vehicles, and similar exclusions are not covered. Contact the Operations Centre as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours after an accident.

  • Rental Vehicle Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D)

During an eligible rental, accidental injury to the primary cardholder, spouse, children, parents, parents-in-law, or siblings in the vehicle pays up to $200,000 for the primary cardholder’s death or a listed major disability, and up to $20,000 for each other insured person. The per-account, per-accident maximum is $300,000. Illness, suicide, intoxication, drugs/poisons, crime, and non-accidental medical complications are material exclusions.

  • Rental Vehicle Personal Effects Benefits

When the primary cardholder travels with the family listed above, personal items lost, stolen, or damaged in transit, in a hotel, or in another building during an eligible rental are covered up to $1,000 per insured person per occurrence and $2,000 per account per rental period. This is excess coverage after other valid protection. Cash, tickets/documents, computers, software, phones, and unexplained loss are excluded.

  • Common Carrier Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D)

If you charge all or part of a scheduled common-carrier fare for the primary cardholder, spouse, or dependent children to this card before departure, accidental injury while they are passengers on the trip, or while travelling to or from an airport, station, or terminal, is covered. Death and several listed major disabilities pay up to $1,000,000; loss of one hand/foot, sight in one eye, speech, or hearing pays up to $500,000; the thumb and index finger of the same hand pay up to $250,000. The per-account, per-accident maximum is $1,000,000. Notify the Operations Centre within 30 days of the accident. Illness, suicide, war, intoxication, drugs/poisons, crime, and non-accidental medical complications are excluded.

  • Unexpected Return Home

If you charged all or part of an insured person’s common-carrier fare to this card before departure, and an immediate relative dies during the trip, the primary cardholder, spouse, or dependent children can be reimbursed the lesser of the ticket-change cost or a one-way economy common-carrier fare back to the province or territory of residence, up to $2,000 each. You must contact the Operations Centre first so they can arrange it. Extra travel-insurance costs, and amounts already paid, credited, or vouchered, are not covered.

  • Purchase Assurance

After the primary cardholder or a Family Cardholder charges an eligible personal item in full to this card or an account cheque, worldwide theft or damage is covered for 90 days from the purchase date. The insurer may repair, replace, or pay the pre-tax purchase price. The lifetime aggregate per account is $60,000. Computers/software and accessories are limited to $1,000 per loss; jewellery and artwork are limited to $500 per item per loss. This is excess coverage after other valid insurance, protection, or warranties. Cash, tickets, documents, plants and animals, mail-order items before delivery, golf balls, and most motor vehicles are excluded. Contact them immediately after you learn of a loss. Formal claim notice is due within 30 days.

  • Extended Warranty

New items charged in full to this card, with a manufacturer warranty valid in Canada, can have that warranty doubled, up to one extra year. Coverage is automatic when the original warranty is five years or less. Longer warranties must be registered with the Operations Centre within one year of purchase. Used items and motor vehicles and their accessories are excluded. Only mechanical breakdown, parts, or labour already covered by the original Canadian warranty are covered.

  • Price Protection Service (World version only)

This is a service, not insurance, and it applies only to a primary or additional cardholder who is actually approved for an MBNA World Mastercard. For most new personal items bought in Canada and charged in full to that card, if you find the same brand, model, and attributes at a lower Canadian-dollar retail price in Canada within 60 days, you can claim the pre-tax difference. The difference must be at least $10 per item, up to $500 per item and $1,000 per account per year, no more than three identical items in the same 60 days, and you cannot claim the same item twice. Computers, phones, motor vehicles, consumables and fuel, used/refurbished items, business purchases, services, foreign websites, and grey-market goods do not qualify. Keep the receipt, statement, and dated Canadian lower-price ad, and submit the materials within 120 days of purchase.
