Out of Province/Country Emergency Medical Insurance
Available to Canadian residents covered by a provincial government health plan who travel outside their home province. Travellers aged 64 or under on departure are covered for the first 15 consecutive days of a trip, up to $5,000,000 CAD per insured person per trip for reasonable and customary emergency medical expenses. Contact Global Excel before emergency treatment when possible. If you do not, you may be responsible for 20% of eligible expenses not recovered from government coverage, up to $25,000. Unstable pre-existing conditions and known plans to seek treatment are subject to exclusions.
-
Trip Cancellation Insurance
If a trip is cancelled for a sudden, unforeseeable reason listed in the certificate, non-refundable and non-transferable prepaid travel arrangements, or the lower change fee, can be covered up to $2,500 per insured person and $5,000 for all insured persons combined. Prepaid arrangements must be paid with this Card or Membership Rewards® points; other rewards-program points are excluded. An unstable pre-existing condition in the 90 days before coverage begins and supplier vouchers can reduce or exclude a claim.
-
Trip Interruption and Trip Delay Insurance
If any part of a prepaid travel arrangement is charged to this Card or paid with Membership Rewards® points, a listed interruption or delay may cover unused non-refundable and non-transferable arrangements. The limit is $2,500 per insured person and $6,000 for all insured persons combined. Eligible meals and accommodation are covered up to $250 per person per day and $1,000 combined. Other rewards-program points are excluded, and airline, supplier and other recoverable sources must be used first.
-
Flight Delay and Denied Boarding Insurance
The full ticket price, including taxes, must be charged to this Card. A missed connection caused by an inbound delay, a confirmed departure delay of at least four hours, or denied boarding because of overbooking can qualify when the airline has not provided alternative transportation within four hours of the scheduled departure. Reasonable living expenses and incidentals during the delay may be covered. This coverage shares a $1,000 per-occurrence limit with baggage delay. Tickets paid with non-Membership Rewards® points are excluded.
-
Emergency Baggage Delay Insurance
If outbound checked baggage is still missing more than six hours after arriving at the destination and the full ticket was charged to this Card, reasonable immediate expenses for essential clothing and sundries purchased during the first four days can be covered. This coverage shares a $1,000 per-occurrence limit with flight delay and denied boarding. Baggage delay on the flight home is excluded, as are tickets paid with non-Membership Rewards® points.
-
Lost or Stolen Baggage Insurance
When the full ticket price is charged to this Card, baggage and personal effects can be covered if lost or damaged while checked with an eligible airline, or while carry-on baggage is being transported from boarding through disembarkation. The limit is $1,000 per occurrence for all insured persons combined, including $300 for jewellery and $250 for golf clubs and bag. Electronics, cameras, cash, perishables and most sports equipment are excluded. Report the claim promptly and, where possible, provide written notice within 90 days.
-
Hotel Burglary Insurance
When the full accommodation cost is booked and paid with this Card and the Cardmember is the registered guest, personal property stolen from the accommodation can be covered up to $1,000 per burglary. Cash, gift cards, documents and fragile artwork are excluded. Theft from a non-accommodation property, a rented property and situations where reasonable care was not taken are also excluded.
-
Travel Accident Insurance
The fare for common-carrier transportation must be charged to this Card before the injury. The Basic or Supplementary Cardmember, their spouse and dependent children under 23 can receive up to $500,000 for accidental death or dismemberment. The covered loss must occur within 100 days of the accident, and only the largest applicable loss is paid per person per accident. Holding multiple Amex cards does not increase the per-person maximum.
-
Car Rental Theft and Damage Insurance
The Cardmember must charge the entire rental to the same Card, or use Membership Rewards® points with taxes charged to the Card, and decline the rental company’s CDW/LDW. Eligible cars, SUVs and minivans must have an MSRP below $85,000 CAD excluding tax. The rental may not exceed 48 consecutive days. Theft, loss, damage and eligible loss-of-use are covered without a deductible, but third-party liability is not included. Report an accident, theft or damage within 48 hours; many high-value, commercial and specialty vehicles are excluded.

The limit is $10,000 per item and $25,000 per Cardmember per policy year. Used or refurbished goods, purchased extended warranties, recalls, negligence and improper installation are excluded. Report within 45 days and provide documents within 60 days of the incident, or within 30 days of a request.
